I woke up early the next morning to aunt Merida pounding on my door. I groaned and rubbed my sore arm. I had lied about not helping any old ladies last night."Emma!! Get up! Your father will be here to get you in a few hours!!"
"What!?" I jumped out of bed and glanced at the calendar on the wall, that had a big x on today's date.
I quickly got everything packed up to leave and got dressed. I started luging my one full suitcase toward the stairs and Duke, my favourite of the hounds, kept whining and circling me.
"Shhh." I patted his head and knelt down in front of him, "Be a good boy when I'm gone."
He whimpered and licked my face a few times before I stood back up. after several trips up and down the stairs I finally managed to get everything out on the porch.
I sat on the old wooden deck swing by my stuff and closed my eyes. I really didn't want to leave...
"Emma dear?"
I opened my eyes again at the sound of aunt Merida's voice. She was standing behind the screen door and wearing one of her signature cat sweaters.
"Yes?"
She opened the door and stepped out onto the porch with uncle Stan right behind her. She sat down next to me and wrapped a thin arm around my shoulders in a half hug.
"We'll miss having you here."
"It's been nice having a youngin' here for a change." Stan added in.
I smiled at them and wrapped an arm around aunt Merida as well, "Thanks for putting up with me."
Stan gave a small chuckle then pointed down the street to a black car, "That must be for you."
Sure enough the car pulled in the driveway and an older man in a suit got out.
"Miss Emma I presume." He said with a rather thick British accent.
I nodded and the man smiled. "I'm Alfred Pennyworth. I'm here to take you to your father's."
"He couldn't come himself?" I scoffed picking up some of my suitcases while he grabbed the others.
"He's rather busy today. Since he just arrived back in Gotham last night."
I rolled my eyes and helped him put my stuff in the trunk. I waved to my aunt and uncle who were now standing back inside looking out the screen door. Alfred opened the back door of the car for me and I climbed in.
"So where exactly does my father live?" I questioned as he climbed into the driver's seat.
"Don't worry miss I'm sure you'll love it. It's quite grand, and I hear the butler is amazing." he looked back at me through the rearview mirror and smiled.
"I'm sure he is." I said giving him a small smile back.
"You look like your father you know. You've got his eyes, and attitude I'm afraid."
"Well I'm glad he gave me something." I mumbled slouching down further.
He frown and looked back at me in the mirror, "I'm sure he'll make it up to you miss Emma."
I snorted and crossed my arms over my chest. "Yeah right. He didn't even care to come visit us after he found out about me. Just stayed here in Gotham so he could 'work'."
The rest of the ride was dead silent which I was grateful for. I really didn't want to hear how much I was like the father I've never even met.
"Here we are miss. Wayne manor."
