The Warriors have a meeting and you are not invited. Probably did not want an 'island devil' hearing all their plans. It was fair enough, even you would not want an 'island devil' there.

Zeke had instructed you to babysit the Warrior cadets.

Following the beginning of your training you had begun to remember commands and fight styles. Reiner had noted that the fight style you had adopted had elements from Annie and other teachers from cadet corps.

"Hault," you call out to the cadets. They take three paces then stop. The stamp of the boots meeting together perfectly in sync, "Cadets, to your duties, fall out." they turn 45 degrees, stamp their feet and take three paces forward, their arms swinging high with patriotism. After the three steps, the cadets begin to walk normally again. All laughing and talking.

Just a facade.

Gabi stomps up to you. She mumbles something, but nothing to do with being an island devil. Noticing you had not her she repeats.

"Can you take me to the grocery store, Reiner was meant to take me but he's at a meeting." she asks embarrassed unable to make eye contact.

"Sure." you quickly say goodbye to the other cadets. Falco seems to want to tag along with you. Personally you do not mind, but Gabi seems otherwise. There is something going on between those two.

Honestly, you had no worry about accompanying Gabi to the store. Even if she thinks you are an 'island devil'.

It clicked. Just by observing Falco and Gabi, it was painfully obvious that he has a crush on her.

You all walk into a store. Vegetables lines the shelves. They seem slightly rotten. Gabi rummaged through the basket attempting to find the best of a bad bunch. She picks up a few carrots and tomatoes. She then rushes to the meet counter. Whilst Gabi runs about you ask Falco,

"Do you like her?"

His cheeks burn pink, like the colour of roses. The shocked expression on his face makes you laugh. Falco shakes his head, looking to the ground, trying to avoid eye contact.

"I won't tell anyone." you ruffle his hair.

"Promise?"

"Promise."

Gabi is about to pay, when you step in. You take the money out of your pocket and hand it over to the cashier. Each month Magath gave you an allowance of sorts, to sustain your needs. It was the end of the month and you still had some money left, you knew you were going to your allowance soon, so you pay. Maybe you can buy her trust.

"Y/N?" Gabi grabs your attention and you hum, "sorry about calling you a devil."

You wave it off, "It's fine. I don't blame you."

You take the paper bag out of her hands and thank the store owner before leaving. Falco spots his brother Colt and departs from your trio. Leaving just you and Gabi. There is no threat with such a child, at least not now. Maybe in the future, but that is to be determined.

As you turn you suddenly catch a glimpse of a man. Your heart starts to race as fast as a horse, your palms become sweaty like you have just dunked them in the sea and a lump rises in your throat, like you have swallowed bad tasting whine.

Gabi stops talking. She follows your gaze, landing on the same man.

"Do you know him?"

"I-I don't know," you stutter, you think for a second, squinting your eyes to get a better look at the man, "I'm being stupid."

"We can go over an ask?" She is being unusually kind.

"No, it's fine," you pause thinking, is it really fine, "let's get you home."

You continue to walk through the streets of Liberio. It is busier today. Porco had mentioned earlier that soldiers had come back from fighting.

So many were injured, wrapped in bandages from head to toe. Many shaking from Shell Shock. According to Pieck many used to be shot as they were seen as cowardly. When they discovered the true nature of shell shock, soldiers were sent away from the front line.

Other soldiers had their boots off. Their feet were rotting. Trench foot. Many have had their heads shaved, live control.

Gabi has noticed the soldiers as well. Her fists tighten in rage.

"When I inherit a Titan, I'm going to save all my people."

You arrive at Gabis' home and you hand over the brown paper bag. The door opens and a woman is standing there. Peering past her you can see Reiner sitting there.

"Thank you for helping Gabi."

"Right, I'll be off." You turn to leave, feeling the deathly stares Reiner is sending you. Gabi stops you.

"My mum said you can stay for dinner." You kneel down to her level and smile.

"Maybe some other time," you hold out your pinky, she locks her with you, "pinky promise."

You stand to face Gabis' mother, thanking her for the offer of hospitality. The two wave you off.
