Chapter 16: Sisterly love
“Sis?” I asked.
“Makaylah?” Monique asked.
“Yeah oh my god it’s you” I smiled as I gave my sister a big hug.
“Wow you look better than you did in high school” Monique said as she took off her sunglasses to get a better look at me.
“Don’t go there” I said as I invited her inside.
“Nice place, I mean it’s better than my condo I just bought” she said as she looked around.
“So what brings you here?” I asked.
“I was just in the neighborhood and I saw your address in the phone book so I thought I would stop by and say hi” she smiled.
“So anything new happen in your life?” she asked.
“Nothing much” I lied.
“Yeah right I know something happened, I mean clearly you are single and probably never dated before yet but that’s okay” she said as she sat down on the couch.
“Actually I did have a boyfriend and we just broke up last night” I frowned.
“Really…” Monique sighed just not believing me.
“You don’t believe me?” I asked.
“No, but if I met this Zack guy then I’ll believe u” she said.
“Fine” I said then my house phone rang.
I looked at the caller ID and it said Zack Carson. My sister leaned over to see why I haven’t answered the phone then asked “Are you going to get that?”
“No” I said as I leaned back in my chair.
The phone stopped ringing and the answer machine clicked on and said: Hey Makaylah it’s Zack. We need to talk and I’m sorry for yelling at you and I miss you. Please call me back.
After a slight pause the message ended and the machine beeped.
“Girl he sounds really depressed without you, why don’t you call him back?” my sister asked.
“No I’m going to let him hurt as much as I did when he lied and kept secrets from me” I said as I deleted the message.
“Okay sis I’m going to meet Zack and see why you two broke up for real since you won’t tell me” she smiled.
“Fine I’ll send him a text” I sighed then reached over for my phone sitting on the coffee table so I can text him.
Zack was at home stressing out from what happened between us last night. His dad walked into the living room and saw his son staring at the phone.
“So she hasn’t called you back yet?” his dad asked.
“No I really messed up with her” he sighed.
“Look son just give her time to think she’ll come back” his dad patted his son’s shoulder.
“How many times have you called her?” his dad asked.
“Um about 20 times” he said as he stared at his phone.
“Zack 20 times?” his dad sighed and asked.
“Yeah and she hasn’t returned any of them” he sighed while staring at his phone.
Zack’s phone started to buzz because there was an incoming text message from someone. He clicked the message on his phone and it read: Hey Zack meet me at Tina’s café so we can talk, Makaylah.
