I was shocked with what Maddie had said. "I- I mean y-yea-" She cut me off again. "Don't worry. I'll give you some tips." Maddie smiled. I nodded. "You ask questions about love, and I'll answer. Make sure to note down my answers." Maddie explained. I grabbed a notepad and a pen. "What is love? What do you like to call it as?" I asked. "Love, is love. A special someone you truly feel safe with and you can trust. Love is when you get excited to see that person, when you know they'll be excited to see you." Maddie smiled. Maddie started to get teary. I looked at her, and she wiped off her tear. "How do people fall in love? Why do people fall in love?" I asked. "To fall in love, you would need to talk or see someone a lot and start to develop a friendship with them. To look forward in seeing them. Eventually you'll be happy when you fall for them, or when you know you've fallen for them. People fall in love because they know they'll be happy. They'll always feel protected and loved by that person." Maddie replied. "Ho- How does it feel to be in love?" I asked. "It feels, different. It feels new. It feels good. You just want to be with that person forever and ever. You don't want it to ever end." Maddie described. "What happens when you fall out of love?" I mumbled. "It hurts. It's really painful. You always felt that, that one person will always be around. When they leave you feel, empty, unsafe, unloved, insecure. You just don't feel like you anymore." Maddie tried to hide her tears but I couldn't stand to not notice them. "Are you ok-" She cut me off. "Yeah, yeah. Continue." I nodded. "My last question is, how hard is the pain? What does it feel like? How long does it take?" I asked. "The pain is horrible. It feels like it'll last forever. The pain feels like you're getting dragged along hot fire. Burning flames touching your heart until is collapse into your hand. Healing is a person thing. It depends on how in love you were with that person. From experience, it took five months." Maddie explained. I wrote down everything Maddie had said, until she slouched her head onto the table.I looked over to Maddie. "Are you okay Mads?" I asked. "Don't fall in love Val. It's too much to handle." She said pouring her eyes out. I over to hug her. She hugged me tightly. Out of nowhere, I started crying on her shoulder as well. "Is love always about a relationship?" I asked. "No. Love is everything. Love can be with your Mum, Dad, Brother, Sister, Grandpa, Grandm-" I cut her off. "My Nana. I want to write about that." "Your Nana? What is your relationship with her?" Maddie asked. "Was. Was my relationship with her." I wiped my eyes. "Oh. I'm so sorry. Come here." Maddie hugged me tightly. I felt that I was with Nana. "You can write about your Nana." Maddie said. "I had a wonderful relationship with her. She was my best friend. I always spoke to her. I always visited her. She died on Wednesday. Last week." I explained. "Oh, Val. I'm so sorry. That would of hurt so badly." Maddie sympathised. "It did. My heart perished. You should have seen my Mother. She was the real hurt one. I've never seen her so hurt." I said. "I think you should write about your Nana. Whether anyone likes it or not. It could turn out to be a wonderful story, and you will always remember her by it." Maddie explained. I nodded.
After a couple minutes of advice and tips from Maddie, I said goodbye to Jae, Isabella and Maddie leaving to have lunch with my Mum. I got on my bike and rode home. I saw my Mum's car pull up, and I got in. "Did you have fun?" Mum asked. "Yeah. We were talking about what it's like falling in love." I replied. "Oh really? And that's for your English homework?" Mum asked. "Yeah." My Mum and I went to a restaurant called 'Sip n' Crunch only' I had lots of fun with my Mum. "How are you holding up Mum?" I asked. "After the other night?" I asked. "I'm doing okay. We've chosen a spot near the beach." Mum explained. "Nana loved the beach. I'd like to see the spot. Let's go after lunch." I suggested. My Mum nodded.
