All is silent as we drive. Surprisingly, the the music is turned low and there is only the occasional slurping of Alana's drink.
"Do you wanna talk about it?"
"No."
"What DO you wanna do?"
"I don't know. Please just.. drive."
Alana understandingly nods and continues forward. I breath in deeply and think about what has happened. I am not upset.. or at least I think I'm not. I shouldn't be upset. We weren't even deep into the relationship...not really at all. I shouldn't be upset. I shouldn't be upset.
But the truth is.. I most definitely am.
I close my eyes and begin to fall asleep, ignoring the fact that my phone is vibrating from a call.
~~~~When I wake up, I'm at the beach, in the parking lot. I groggily sit up and look to the drivers seat, where I see Alana reading.
"What are you reading?" I say over the rain that had began pounding on the windshield.
"It's called Stolen. It's about this guy that is obsessed with this girl and then he steals her. It's interesting."
"Okay..."
She turns and looks at me.
"Are you sure you're okay?" And a normal person could tell the truth without feeling like an idiot, but I am not one to like revealing my emotions to everyone. I finally just let my guard down.
"No... not really." I look at her, slightly beginning to choke up, "I really thought we had this connection.. something that you don't find just anywhere. I- I had never felt this... that way about someone. It just sucks that we didn't even get the chance to get to be anything special."
"Well you could just give him another chance? I mean, didn't he tell you he was going to break it off with Riley anyways?" She pulls a bag of licorice out of her door and begins to eat it, flopping 3 pieces towards me. I grab them and bite into the first one.
"Her name is like.. Rosie or something. And I don't know.. I just feel like if he'd do it to her, he'd do it to me, you know?"
"It's up to you. But Rana or whatever her name is will be out of the picture pretty soon if Bash is smart and then you can be happy with him. You said it yourself that you've never felt like this before and that's something you should hold onto in my opinion." She states while flopping her licorice around. She starts the car up and begins backing out, despite the heavy rain.
"Well, in your opinion cherry licorice is better than strawberry, and that is wrong so." I shrug my shoulders and laugh.
We just head back to the house and I look at my phone.
' 1 missed call from: Sebastion'
"You should call him."
"No."
"Suit yourself."
"Okay."
"You're a whore."
"I'm glad you noticed."
"Asshole."
"You are not."
"K."
"Cool."
"Wanna get food on the way home?"
"Sure."
"K."
And then there's silence again.
~~~~~
When we get to my house I walk immediately to the door in the rain and fumble with my keys, not even realizing that there was another person standing next to me.
"Emmaline," I hear him whisper. I jump back, dropping the keys and turn to face him. He's holding a bouquet of roses and he is soaking wet. I think of our date together in the rain.
"What are you doing here?" I ask, as I see Alana pull out of the road and to her own house, where she is getting more clothes for the next few days.
"I came to apologize. I should have never tried to start anything with you without breaking off my past relationship. It was stupid of me to think you'd never find out. I guess I was just waiting to see if I would be able to keep it from you until I could get her out of the picture. I truly am sorry, and I don't mean to be 'that guy' but there is no way I'm letting you go without apologizing to you and making things right because I know you deserve at least that after what I did to you. I'm sorry, Em. I wish we didn't end this way." He offers the roses to me and turns to leave. As he steps down the stairs I step forward.
"It doesn't have to be over." I barely choke out. Bash stops and turns around, clearly enthralled with my comment.
"Thank god, there was no way we could be over without me ever getting to do this," and before I realize what's happening I am pushed to the wall and the roses drop from my hand. I am suddenly looking into Bash's blue eyes and his lips press against mine not long after. I sink into the kiss as his arms slide down my arms onto my waist, pulling me closer. He pulls back shortly and looks at me, grinning in an almost conniving way. I grab his head between my hands and pull him back down to me, continuing our make out session. My heart is beating quickly and slowly, reluctantly we pull apart. He hovers at my lips and then moves his head back so he can see me.
"Thank you for giving me another chance. You won't regret it." He says turning back around. He grabs the roses and hands them to me again. As he takes the first step he turns around once more and pecks me on the cheek.
"Goodbye, Sebastion. See me soon." I smiled at him and slide my hand across his face. I can smell his cologne mixed with the rain as he turns the last time and begins to walk.
As he disappears from my sight I slide into the house soaking wet. I touch my lips where the kiss still lingers at a slight tingle. I quickly go upstairs and shower, knowing Alana will soon be back and eager to do something.
When I reach my bedroom squeezing my hair in a towel, I check my phone and see a missed call from Sebastion. I call him back, realizing I owe him that.
"Em.." He breathes.
"Sebastion? Why'd you call?"
"I'm... locked out of my house. And I'm soaked and dad won't be home for days."
"I guess you could shower here? And mom knows and loves you so if you need to, you can stay in the guest bedroom?"
"Okay cool. Thanks." And as soon as I hang up I hear a knock at the door and see Alana and Sebastion standing there waiting for me to invite them in. Except Alana pushes Bash out of the way and barges in.
"Why is he here? Aren't you guys over? I'm hungry."
Sebastion laughs at Alana.
"Nope. I'm staying the night."
"What the hell? Why. I have dibs on Em's bed."
"Okay."
I realize that Bash is still standing there soaked and I lead him to the guest bathroom across the hall from the room. Before I can shut the door he peels his shirt from his wet skin and it falls to the floor with a smack. He stops the door and opens it back up to wrap his arm around me and peck me on the lips once again.
"I need clothes to change into, unless you want me walking around naked," he smirks at me and I have to push his stomach to get myself away from him. He is muscular and toned. I leave him to the bathroom and I go to my mothers room, where there are still some clothes of my father's.
As I turn to go back to the bathroom my foot catches on some leftover water and I hear a crack. It's not until I see red and the floor that I realize I have fallen. I try to open my mouth but all I see is darkness and blurred voices cloud my hearing. Of course this would happen. To me and only me.
