Only about five minutes after I was back in my room, Hayden, ruffling his hands through his hair, decides he is going to leave. I realize that it is a good idea, since we were being really awkward after what happened earlier.
After Hayden left, I closed my door and sighed. Why did life have to be so complicated. I walked over to the little antique dresser I had and pulled open the top drawer. I pulled out a navy tank top and slipped it on, along with navy and pink pajama shorts. I pulled my hair up into a messy bun and put lotion on my dry, golden tanned arms and legs.
I go over to the window and open it, closing my eyes and breathing in the rainy, cool, summer air. I can't believe that school was finally over and summer was starting soon. The weather was ready for us to spend endless days in it.
I heard my phone buzz, as I walked back to my bed and got under the sheets. Plugging it in to charge, it lit up showing two new texts from Lana Bear.
I unlocked it and opened my messages.
Sooooo. What just happened between you and Hayden?
and
And what are you doing tm? How about the beach?? :* xx
I blow out a puff of air which moves my hair. I don't want to talk about the whole incident about Hayden right now, and I really don't want to know how she found out about it. I reply:
Beach sounds good. I will give you details about Hayd tm? smh. byee. love ya<3
I set my phone on the table and flop onto the bed. I don't want to go to school. I need a vacation. I think to myself, realizing how silly I must sound. I am right on the verge of sleep when my phone goes off again. Seriously Alana!? I think, but when I roll over and grab my phone, it isn't Alana who texted me.
iMessage
From: Hayd
My stomach flips and I am scared to read it. But of course, I do.
Hey, I'm sorry about leaving so soon.. I just felt really awkward about our little.. moment. Anyways, I'll see you tm morning? love you. goodnight.
I grin. He always made sure he told me he loved me and goodnight. But something was bothering me. I layed back down and closed my eyes, even though I knew that with all my restlessness that I wouldn't be able to fall asleep until I realized what was bothering me.
Just on the verge of sleep again, I realized what it was. Hayd didn't write "Goodnight, gorgeous". And I wasn't being stuck up or anything but it bothered me for the simple fact that he always said that. I closed my eyes and willed myself to sleep. Tomorrow is a new day.
****Page Break****
I wake up to the sound of birds and a muffled vacuum downstairs. Slowly opening my eyes and stretching, I look to the window that's been opened and the curtains are pulled back. I sit up. Mom must have came in and cleaned while I was asleep. My bedroom was always clean anyways but, since dragging the vacuum up the stairs was a task that I didn't enjoy, mom did it for me. She lit the candles in my room, making it smell like "Warm Summer Beach".
I debate getting out of bed but as I roll over, I check my phone and read the very angry texts from Alana about how she is going to get fruit and smoothies and then going to pick me up for the beach. My entire room is clean, smelling great and filled with sunlight. I make my bed and do my daily workouts, knowing that Alana will kill me if I don't.
After I clean my closet of all the school clothes and pull out all of the shorts, tanks and summery dresses, I find my bathing suits and put on my mint green bandeau with my black bottoms. I throw a short navy polka dotted dress on with cute flip flops.
Blowing out my candle, I stepped into the hallway, almost crashing into Alana.
"I was just about to knock your door in. What took you so long?" She asked.
"You never told me what time you'd be here, and I haven't had time to check my phone."
She turns around and practically drags me out of the hallway. The living room/ kitchen looks super clean and nice. There are candles lit and much like my room, sunlight and the cool summer breeze floats through the house.
When we step outside it's like an oven. There is a slight breeze and I can see the water from my porch. The beach looks so inviting. That's when I'm ripped out of my day dreaming.
"EMMALINE SAGE, GET YOUR ASS DOWN HERE. I NEED TO GET MY TAN ON!"
I scowl at her but jog to the car. She has a red convertible that her grandfather bought her before he died. It was a nice car. It suits her personality nicely. As she speeds off she hoots and hollers, and turns the music blasting up.
We only have time to listen to three songs on the radio before we are pulling into our secret pathway. We found this entryway to the beach when we were little, and since it prevented us from having to pay, we never stopped using it.
Except this time, there's another car here. A nice black car. Alana and I look at each other confused. In the 16 years of coming to this beach we have never seen another car in our secret parking spot.
"Who the hell is this guy!? And what does he think he's doing?" Alana asks, as she parks the car and gets out. I follow her.
"I'm checking the inside." She says.
"ALANA NO! What if they are murderers or something?" I reply but I am just as curious as her.
We walk to the car and see that no one is in it. I put my hands on the window and look inside. Its a very clean car. After Alana sees that there is nothing to snoop at, she decides to just head down to the beach.
We lay out our towels and put baby oil on, because what's the first day of summer without a blazing sunburn? Alana props herself up and decides to crack open her box of strawberries and we start to eat them. Alana starts to scope out the guys since she is "single and ready to mingle". I am too focused on reading my book to look at guys, which are nothing but trouble anyways.
Not five minutes of silence before Alana starts talking to me. I have learned to tune her out. I get about 5 more seconds and then-"
"EMMALINE. LOOK AT THAT GOD." She yells. I snap my head up and look into the sun to find who she is talking about. It isn't until she points him out that I see him, sitting by the water. She's right, he is god-like. He turns and we make eye contact. I've seen him before.
"Alana."
"What?"
"That's"
"OMG he's coming over here!"
"Alana."
"SHH! I'm trying to look hot."
"ALANA." I whisper-yell through gritted teeth."
"WHAT?!" She does the same, while smiling.
"That's him."
"That's wh- OH!" She realizes as he stops in front of us.
"Hi, I'm Bash." He smiles at Alana.
"Hi..." She replies.
He turns to me and grins.
"Hello, Miss Emmaline."
And suddenly I lose my appetite.
