I stand up and grab his arm, Pulling him to the side I notice that Alana is leaned over, trying to hear as much of what I'm saying as possible. I glare at him.

"What are you doing here!?" I ask, frustrated.

"What am I doing at the public beach? Swimming, my dear." He says, winking and tapping me on my nose like I am five years old.

"Don't touch me." I state, glaring once again. I glance behind him to see Alana who is rolling her eyes at my awkwardness. I've never been one to have the ability to just be good at boys like she is.

"Oh, don't act like you don't like it." He says slowly, and this time he reaches around and rests a hand on my lower back like he did at JavaBean. He also steps closer and I can feel his breath. He smells like a mixture of cologne and salty water. An odd combination but extremely attractive.

I gasp and as soon as I realize it, I try to cover it up by clearing my throat. But it only sounds like a garbage disposal of noise and I embarass myself even more. Bash chuckles at me. I feel my cheeks warming and I back up. His smile drops.

"Why do you hate me so much? I certainly don't hate you, Emmaline." It's a sincere question.

"I- I don't hate you, I just hate your demeanor. And how you are so- invasive of my space. It's annoying. And also attractive. Which makes me angry with you. " Oh my god. Seriously, Em?! I think to myself. I just admitted that I thought he was attractive... to his face. I hate myself.

"Oh? So you do think that I'm attractive? Good to know, Miss Emmaline-" He obviously wants to know my last name. And there's no way I'm gonna tell him.

"Sage. Her name is Emmaline Sage." Alana says, now standing beside me, with an eyebrow raised smile directed towards Bash. I could literally drown her.

"Sage? As in Doctor Melissa Sage? The most successful doctor in Charlotte?!" He knows who my mom is. Of course. Everybody in North Carolina knew who my mother was.

"Yes." I reply. Stomping on Alana's foot. She makes a fake pained face and turns back to Bash.

"Well, not that you asked or anything, but my last name is Hemmings. As in, Doctor Sander Hemmings, Chief of Surgery." He smiles a toothy white smile at me and I have to laugh. Not only are both of our parents very well known and successful, they know each other. They work in the same hospital.

"What a coincedence! You guys should get married then. You have success running through your veins. Imagine a bunch of little surgeon babies running around a big sucessful hous-" I give Alana the dirtiest look while Bash chuckles again. That handsome, asshole chuckle. I really am going to drown her. I think to myself again.

"And what is your name again?" Bash asks Alana.

"Alana Rae. Nice to meet you Bash." She reaches out a hand to shake.

"Nice to meet you, Alana Rae. I'm Bash Hemmings." He shakes her hand. And I'm just standing here awkwardly smiling.

"Yep. I like you. But just remember, if you hurt my best friend, I'll BASH your face in." I choke. I can't believe she just said that. But he smiles.

"I assure you, the last thing I intend to do is hurt her." He grins at me.

"Come with me, I want to show you something." He pulls my hand. I start to pull away but Alana glares at me.

"Yeah! I see some hot guys over there, I'm gonna go talk to them. I will see you when I get back."

And then I'm being led to an isolated side of the beach alone with Bash Hemmings. Shit.
