Draco Malfoy wanted to start his life over. His father had practically ruined it before it could even really start. After the Wizarding War, Lucius Malfoy was sentenced to life in Azkaban, which many of the death eaters were sentenced. Draco had been lucky, meaning he hadn't been sentenced to life in Azkaban. His mother was able to convince the Ministry that he had been forced into everything, which he had been, but they only believed it after Narcissa Malfoy had said it.
Draco had wanted to work for the Ministry for years, but they wouldn't accept him. He had plenty of money, since he had full reign over the Malfoy inheritance, but he still wanted to work. He didn't want to use that dirty money, but he really didn't have much of a choice. Nobody wanted to hire an ex-death eater. The only place that would hire him was The Leaky Cauldron, but he really didn't want to work there.
Draco's friend Blaise Zabini had trouble finding work as well, though he hadn't been a death eater. Blaise was still quite arrogant, but he had seemed to tone down his prejudice ways. He, like Draco, had been quite wealthy and still was, but he wanted to finally be known for something other than being, "Draco Malfoy's best friend."
Over the three years after the Wizarding War, Draco had dropped many of his old friendships. He stopped hanging out with Pansy Parkinson, since he had finally realized just how toxic and clingy the girl actually was. He didn't talk to Gregory Goyle anymore, since he could still barely get the image of Vincent Crabbe dying out of his head. Draco had also completely dismissed Theodore Nott, since Theo was still flaunting the riches the Nott family had acquired.
Narcissa Malfoy had still went along with the arranged marriage of Draco and Astoria Greengrass, since she believed Draco would never find anyone else to love. Astoria's older sister, Daphne, loved the idea of the arranged marriage, but Draco despised it entirely. After many arguments with his mother, Draco was able to end the arrangement, breaking all ties between the Malfoy and Greengrass families.
Once Lucius Malfoy had been arrested, Draco had decided to leave Malfoy Manor. Narcissa hadn't been in the best of health, but Draco used the Malfoy fortune to pay for someone to take care of his mother. He couldn't lose her, otherwise he would have nothing left. She was the only person he had left, other than Blaise, so he had to make sure she stayed alive.
Draco hated the Malfoy Manor more than he hated being a death eater. The Manor held too many terrible memories for him, which was mostly fueled by his hatred for his father. Had his father not been so horrible, than Draco wouldn't have had such a terrible life. If Draco had a different father, he wouldn't be haunted by all of the bad decisions, wrong doings, and terrible morals his father had thrust upon him at a young age.
Draco had found himself a smaller manor to call his own. The manor was no where near the size of the one he had grown to despise, but it was plenty big for himself and anything that could happen in his future. Since the manor was still quite big, Draco had allowed Blaise to live in the manor with him.
Blaise's mother had passed away a year after the Wizarding War had ending, meaning Blaise had inherited everything including his family manor. He chose to not live in it alone though, since he hated the silence it brought with it. When everything was quiet, it gave the brain a chance to wander, meaning it would wander to a darker place.
The quiet made everything harder, since it was riddled with the past. Their dreams were filled with haunting nightmares of the Wizarding War. They could hear the screams, see the tears of grieving families, and see the dead that were displayed for all to gaze upon. Over the years, the dreams didn't seem to ease, and anyone could tell that PTSD had set in permanently.
After years of searching for a job, Draco was given the choice between working at the Leaky Cauldron or working at Honeydukes. Draco hadn't been given a job offer at Honeydukes until two years after the Wizarding War, but he was grateful for the offer nonetheless. So, after much consideration, Draco had decided to work at the Leaky Cauldron.
He despised the idea of working at the Leaky Cauldron, but he knew he wouldn't stand out as much there as he would if he worked at Honeydukes. He didn't want to give people more chances to glare at him or spit hateful comments. He knew he had done wrong, but he didn't want to be reminded every second he was in public. He almost wished he could deal with staying in the shadows of his manor all his life, but he couldn't handle it, so he had to deal with people.
The Leaky Cauldron could've been worse, but at least he blended in for the most part. The thing that set him out the most wasn't the Dark Mark on his arm, which he covered quite often, it was the bright blonde Malfoy family hair. The hair color ran through each generation, meaning it was quite evident who his family was. The only other blonde that had hair as bright as him was Luna Lovegood, but she was now Luna Longbottom.
Draco wondered if he'd ever get a happy ending, but he doubted it would ever happen. He knew all his terrible decisions would have consequences, one of those being that nobody would want to associate with him. He wanted to finally be happy, but he couldn't trust anyone. He couldn't trust that anyone would trust him, so he was in quite the conundrum. He just needed everything to get better, but nothing would ever work out in his favor...
