Athenadora stood still in her place, shocked to see the Draco Malfoy holding her son. She hadn't felt hostile seeing him holding Teddy either, which also surprised her. Normally if anyone touched one of her children, she would attack them in mere seconds, but she didn't this time. Maybe it was because she knew Draco was trying to be a better person, or maybe it was because she knew he wouldn't hurt Teddy in the middle of Diagon Alley since there were too many witnesses.
"Oh, Teddy. Are you alright?" Athenadora asked, as she stared at her son.
"I fell down, Mummy." He whimpered, his bottom lip coming out into a pout.
"I know, but you should've listened to me. You wouldn't have fallen if you listened." Athenadora scolded, as she simply shook her head.
"Pet?" Mona asked, causing Athenadora to sigh.
"Right, I forgot," Athenadora answered, looking back at her son,"Thank Mr Draco for helping you up and making sure you weren't hurt." She said, and her son nodded.
"Thank you, Mr Draco. I'm sorry for running into you." Teddy murmured, and Drao chuckled slightly.
"It's fine, kid. Just be careful next time. You might run into a person who isn't so nice if you're not careful." Draco replied, and Teddy grinned.
"Thank you, Draco." Athenadora answered, as she grabbed Teddy's hand to walk away.
"Athenadora. Can-can I talk to you for a minute?" Draco asked, stuttering slightly.
"I have to get the kids their pet, Draco. I don't really have time to stand around and talk." She replied, her words harsher than originally anticipated.
"O-oh, that's fine. I just--it doesn't matter." He answered, turning around to walk away.
Athenadora sighed, feeling terrible for unintentionally being so rude to Draco. He had been nice to her recently, and he helped her son after the boy had run into him. Draco could've easily been mean, but instead he was calm and rather sweet to the young boy.
"Draco--wait." She called, causing the man to stop.
Draco took a deep breath, trying not to show his disappointed face, before turning to look at Athenadora once more.
"We're having pizza tonight--I know you're not really into muggle things, but the kids love it. You can--I mean, if you want, you can come home with us and have dinner. We can talk while I cook. Teddy and Mona will be too busy with their pet to really bother us." Athenadora said, and Draco bit his lip.
"I'd rather not intrude, Athenadora." He replied, but Athenadora quickly shook her head.
"You won't be, I promise. The kids love having people over. Besides, you can help us figure out the perfect pet to get." She answered, motioning for him to follow them into the pet store.
As soon as they entered the pet store, Teddy began to run around and look at all the pets, as he pulled Mona along with him. The shop owner stared at Athenadora and Draco, eyeing them with curious, yet frightened eyes. Draco could feel the eyes on him, but when he looked up and see the person was staring at Athenadora and her children as well, he glared at the person sharply causing them to look away.
"Mummy! Me and Mona want this one!" Teddy exclaimed, pointing at a midnight black kitten that had a circle shaped white patch of hair on its chest.
"Alright, we can get it. Have Draco help you find what you need for a kitten, while I get the kitten." Athenadora said, and Teddy nodded quickly.
Teddy looked up at Draco for a moment, their eyes staring into each other as if they were trying to study each other. Slowly, Draco reached his hand out for Teddy, and another for Mona, causing the two kids to grab them quickly. Draco walked them around the shop, showing Teddy everything they needed. Teddy grabbed quite a few things, as did Draco, but Mona just stayed glued to his side, her arm staying latched loosely around his leg.
"Are you sure it's safe for your kids to be around him? H-he's a death eater." The shop owner whispered, emphasizing the death eater part.
"It wasn't his choice. Besides, it's none of your business who I have around myself or my children. Just tell me how much all of these things are going to cost me." Athenadora stated, as the shop owner's cheeks tinted red.
"It'll be thirty galleons." The shop owner murmured, as she placed all of the kitten's things into a bag.
Draco slammed the money down on the counter, before grabbing the bags and Teddy's hand. Athenadora picked up Mona and the kitten, before she headed out of the shop as well.
"You didn't have to pay." Athenadora said, but Draco shook his head.
"You're willing to speak to me and you defended me. It's the least I could do. Besides, I'm spending money I'll always have because of the Malfoy name." He answered, his words seeming to come out as venom when he said his last name.
"We'll apparate from here. Hold on." Athenadora instructed, as she held her wand in her right hand.
Draco wrapped his arm around her waist, holding himself and Teddy close to Athenadora so they wouldn't get splinched. As soon as they were outside of her home, Draco let her go and followed her and her children inside.
The place wasn't huge like Malfoy Manor, but unlike Malfoy Manor, Athenadora's home felt cozy and even a bit safe. He wondered if she felt the same feeling when she stepped into her home. He could see many pictures around, but most of them were of her children. She had a few of her family, which consisted of Remus Lupin, Tonks, Sirius Black, Marlene McKinnon, and the Weasley twins. She also had a picture of her uncle Regulus Black, which Sirius had given her when she was little. Athenadora looked over and seen Draco was staring at the picture of Regulus, which made her heart flutter. She hadn't met Regulus, but she could almost miss him as if she did from the stories she had been told...
