Rory's POV:
It's been an exhausting day. I'm tired, I'm confused, and all I really wanted to do was talk to Lane but she's been MIA. It's Thursday and I just got off the bus back at starts hollow. I just really need to talk to somebody about Friday night's events. Mom was being stubborn so I had to take matters into my own hands. Termites are still eating away at our house and none of the bank's mom has called would give her a loan so all I did was give her a little push in Grandma's direction. Ok, it wasn't a little push since I flat out told grandma about the entire situation, but it had to be done. Or at least I thought so, but now I'm having doubt because she hasn't spoken to me since.
At the moment, I'm waiting for Dean on the steps in front of the Stars Hollow High entrance. he came out, threw a basketball past my head and proceeded to yell "think fast" like I'm some kind of monkey. Who does that? I hate basketballs. They're big, and orange, and... blahhhh, which is exactly what I told him.
"Rory..." he says as he sits down on the steps next to me.
"and they're round and hard." I continue.
"you do realize how insane you sound right now?" he asks me.
"yes," I sigh.
"ok, just checking," he tells me.
"I'm sorry, I'm in a horrible mood," I explain.
"hadn't noticed," he says.
"it's just, we've had fights before," I start.
"you and me?" Dean asks.
"Me and mom," I clarify and he nods, "but this one is particularly crazy. I mean, we have a situation here and she's being so stubborn." I tell him.
"huh," did he just huh?
"what?" I ask.
"what what?" he asks.
"What was with the huh?" I ask, gesturing towards him.
"Nothing," he says with a straight face. I don't believe him.
"no, there was a meaning behind that huh," I tell him and he looks away, "that was a loaded huh. that was not a normal huh. you meant to say something with that huh and now you're taking it back." I accuse.
"okay now--" he begins but I cut him off.
"don't use that kind of huh if you're not prepared to defend it," I tell him. he presses his lips together and says nothing. "why aren't you saying anything?" I ask after a moment of silence.
"because words are a very dangerous thing right now," he tells me.
"you were saying that I'm stubborn just like my mother," I say then stare at a tree a few yards in front of me with students walking past it.
"I was saying that in addition to the wonderful and amazing qualities that the two of you share, there is possibly on occasion a similar tendency to dig your heels in.
"I hate it when we fight," I say.
"I know." he agrees.
"she was so mad." I look back at him.
"well you'll make up," he tells me. I smile and he leans in to kiss me. He pulls away then stands up. "you wanna get a coffee?" he asks.
"Yup," I answer.
"Alright, then I'll go get my ball which has rolled into traffic." He tells me and runs off to grab it. I stand back up and fluff the dust off my skirt. I look up and see a group of peppy cheerleaders standing, huddled in a circle, laughing by a tree near the steps to the entrance of the school. One of the cheerleaders, with oddly familiar hair, turns around and looks at me. Immediately both of our smiles are wiped away when I see that it is Lane. she quickly looks away and Dean comes back.
