I threw the notebook across the room and lay down on the bed. All I wanted to do was sleep, but I knew if I did, there could be more visions, or I may wake up to find this was all just another dream, and that I was still in that stupid monochrome cell, still being constantly tortured just for a stupid experiment. The door opened and Jerome walked in, dressed in some form of straight jacket.
"Ash! Where were you? You didn't come back last night, I was so..." He paused, stopping himself from saying whatever he was about to say. He turned around and went into the bathroom, locking the door behind him. I could hear the faint sound of the shower from inside. I get up and get my notebook off of the floor, placing it on a nearby table so that I'd be able to find it later. I sit down on the floor for a bit, leaning against the wall. Thoughts swirled through my mind, all of them about the future I had seen, everything that was to come. Why did I have to be the only one who knew? Why was it my responsibility to change the events that were to come? Or was I meant to ensure that the events happened no matter what? I walked across the hall and knocked on the door to Barbara's room.
"Who is it?"
"It's Ash, can I come in for a bit?"
"Yes, give me a sec," Barbara said. A minute later she opens the door. "So, what do you want?"
"I just want to talk to you for a bit, I need someone to talk to and I can't exactly explain it all to Jerome."
"Ok, come in and sit down."
I rant to her for a while about everything, about being a lab rat, about the visions, and this whole situation with Theo Galavan. She stares at you the whole time
"So, let me get this straight, as a child you were experimented on by a doctor within the basement of Arkham Asylum, so now you're able to see into the future. And due to this ability you've seen Theo kill Jerome during the charity event that's tomorrow, and you don't want that to happen so you need to figure out how to fix it?"
"Yes, and I came to you to talk about it since Jerome's too stubborn to believe me"
"So, you want my advice? I say you should go to James Gordon, explain it to him. He works for the GCPD, I'm sure he can do something."
"I'm sorry but have you lived in Gotham Barbara? Everyone here is corrupt, there's a thin line between right and wrong when it comes to anything to do with Gotham, and I learnt that only in the 5 years I was able to escape. I'm just going to try and sort this out myself, but I wanted to at least talk to someone about it and get everything off my chest."
"So what are you planning on doing?"
"I'm going to stop Galavan from stabbing Jerome, no matter the cost." I stand up to walk out of the room, but Barbara grabs my wrist.
"Ash, are you sure you want this, from what I've heard you're a great person, do you want to risk throwing your life away for that psychopath?"
"Of course, after all, I love him." I shake her hand off my wrist and walk out and back into my room, grabbing my notebook once again. I had to plan something, to figure out how I was going to do this.
It was the night of the charity event. Jerome and Barbara got into disguise as magicians while I stayed backstage. Barbara glanced over at me before stepping out with Jerome.
"Think about what you're about to do Ash, please don't throw your life away like this." She says and walks out, Jerome has a puzzled look on his face for a second, but he walks out as well without another word.
The magic show goes perfectly, he manages to show off a trick with Bruce Wayne, then he reveals that he's Jerome Valeska. People scream and armed men appear, ensuring that no one escapes. Jerome plays around for a bit, just as he had in my dream. Galavan walked onto the stage, demanding for Jerome to let everyone go. I could see the knife in his hand, he was about to...
In a swift movement, he brings his hand up, but at the same time, I run out onto the stage, pushing Jerome out of the way. I could feel it as he stabbed my neck, I stumbled backwards. The whole crowd were in shock, watching after Galavan had just stabbed an "innocent" person. I fall to the ground, the lights swirl through my vision. I could see Barbara grabbing a knife and viciously stabbing Galavan, most likely angry that he just did that. Jerome let out an ear-piercing scream as he realised what had just occurred.
"Ash, no, this can't be happening, this can't be real, no" He is by my side in a matter of seconds. "Barbara, stab that (insert appropriate word here) harder, he deserves a painful death after what he just did." He turns back to me. "Ash, focus on me, stay with me please, I'll find you some help, just please stay with me. IS ANYONE HERE A DOCTOR! Ash, stay with me, you're strong, you can do this, please, I can't lose you, not again, A-" His voice was drowned out by a constant ringing, I could taste my blood. It was becoming more difficult to breathe and my vision was fading. Jerome was still next to me, he was... Crying. With all the strength left in my body, I lifted my arm and touched his cheek.
Jerome's pov:
I looked into their eyes as they touched my cheek. They went limp and their eyes became dull.
"Ash!" I screamed. I stared at their dead body. I never expected it to end so soon. Carefully, I stood up and walked over to Barbara who was stabbing Galavan, at this point, he was already dead. I placed my hand on Barbara's shoulder and she stood up, passing me the knife. I instantly kneeled over his body, stabbing him over and over. He deserved it, after killing the only person I had loved, he deserved this.
The crowd was silent, they didn't even seem to object to me stabbing him, maybe they realised just how much he deserved to be murdered in this way. I walked back over to their body. I held up the knife, then stabbed it into myself. Dying now was better than living without them. I lay down and hugged them as I bled out.
