Chapter 12

The kingdom of Phocon was one of Theria's allies and because of that, both kingdoms established a long standing friendship.. But its current king was an annoying asshole. A spoilt prince who ascended the throne too early- my father would always say.
Today, King Cosmo of Phocon had arrived to the castle for a visit to see me, the new queen....He always had something to say about something and everything and I decided that it was high time I put him in his place.
I was in the throne room when he was ushered in.
He looked at me. The man was a short, annoying fellow with a slapable face.
"Your Majesty, Queen Regina." He said. I got up so we could greet each other. Finnegan never liked the man and James was beginning not to.
"Come my Queen, let us retire to a rather quiet place so we can converse..."
I nodded and we went to my study.
We sat down and were served with wine.
"So King Cosmo. To what do I owe this visit?"
He took a big gulp of his wine with some of it spilling from the side of his mouth onto the cheap fabric that he called clothes.....
"Well, I heard  king Cyrus had been murdered, I was rather taken aback when I came to the realization that you, his daughter would take the throne.. Personally I do not think women are fit to take up positions like this because they rule with emotions. Unlike men. It would have be best if your brother, the prince were to take the throne. In Phocon, the man is the head no matter what.. women have no power there. I've heard your father's whore has brought forth an illegitimate heir, the rumors must be true then. The Barrington men are ever faithful"
I was mad... I was angry.. but then again.. "never let your true emotions show, let your words do them for you" my father would say...
I threw the first punch "and yet.. here we are. Your country is on the verge of extinction and you rely solely on Theria's powerful resources and her strong army to sustain and protect you"
He said "What insolence! Your father must be ashamed at you behavior!"
I laughed again as I took a sip of my wine and proceeded to end him with a smile and some kind words.
"King Cosmo you see, you are stupid even as you are naive. You come to my kingdom and I accept you with open arms. You come into my study and I offer you wine which you have used to stain that heap clothing of yours. Quite frankly I am not impressed and my father was not too fond of you either. He could not stand the sight of you and I often wondered why. Now I see why he always called you a boy-king.. you made a comment about my father's infidelity. Not only have you come to insult the crown, you also come to mock my dead father as well. Let me ask you King Cosmo, do you think that your wife who has a brain the size of a mustard seed told the truth when she claimed that you fathered the boys you now proudly call your sons ? you pompous bastard. Or should I go into detail about how news has reached us here at Theria that you have five other illegitimate children whom your poor stupid cockeyed wife knows nothing about?.. if she were to leave you when she finds the news of your infidelity, she would take your sons which means you will have no standing heir to the throne and I will not hesitate to descend on your precious little kingdom with the wrath of my forefathers and take all that is yours and make you my prisoner of war. Surely you will not find it comforting to spend the rest of your puny life in the dungeons beside my roaring and hungry lions will you? So King Cosmo... before you come in here and tell me how I am not fit to rule or how women are the weaker vessel, ask yourself what you as a man have achieved because that graveyard you call a kingdom will soon fall and like the vultures, I will be standing by...."
He was beyond shocked...
"Y-your Majesty how did you-"
"You have no idea of how much and how many people hate you at your court King Cosmo.. they have come to me and spilled all your secrets and I will not hesitate to make them unleash all of it on your people....do not test me.. I am not my father. I will destroy you or anyone who thinks they can come in here to talk shit about my father or this kingdom.."
I got up , slammed my cup on the table and  went back to the throne room where my brother and Fiancé were waiting for me..
"Sister what happened?"
I replied "I had to remind him who I was. Imagine the nonsense that fell out of that man's lips! He said I am unfit to rule because I am a woman!"
James scoffed "he is blind even as he is stupid"
I chuckled...
Later that day, I was in the throne room with my courtiers when the heralds announced the presence of King Cosmo who had come to inform me of his departure..
I did not want to be hostile towards him because I didn't aint the courtiers to know about our exchange in my study..
"King Cosmos"
He replied "Queen Regina, your majesty, I have come to inform you that I must depart for Phocon. I have matters of state to attend to but first. As I did with your father when i ascended the throne, I must do to you. I hereby pledge my allegiance to you Queen Regina, Phocon will forever be indebted to this great kingdom for how it has helped us and protected us in years past. I hope this relationship will continue forward"
I nodded "yes King Cosmo. I look forward to it and I pray God grants you safe journey back".
He bowed and left..
I smiled to my brother and James as we continued our meeting with the court.
As for Mr Richard, tension had began to grow between him and James. It was already at a point where they couldn't stand being in the same room with each other..
Richard on the other hand had been subtly showing his intentions towards me but I refused to acknowledge them...
One afternoon, the last straw on the camel's back was broken. I was meeting with some noble families and suddenly I heard James voice and he shouted and then a clash of swords outside the hall....
I rushed to see what happened. The royal guard had already surrounded me because they thought it was a threat... But it was James and Richard fighting!.. How immature!!!
I asked a hand maid what had happened
"My Queen, it appears that Mr Richard got into a heated exchange with His Grace the Duke about a petty issue concerning horses and then amidst their argument, Mr Richard boasted that he was going to get you and there was nothing the Duke could do about it"..
I sighed.
Finnie was laughing his heart out. He enjoyed this spectacle!
I smacked the back of his head
"Ow!!!  MY QUEEN!" He said as he rubbed the area to soothe the pain.
I instructed the guards "Cease them and bring them to me"...
They managed to separate the two men who had already brushed each other and given each other cuts....
They were made to kneel before me. I spoke to James first.
"My beloved, you should know better than to engage in physical fights with a guest! You disappoint me!"
His face was bruised and his left arm was cut. He couldn't look at me.
Richard had a side smile but it soon faded as I turned to attach him next.
"And you sir.. I allowed you into my castle but I did not expect you to misbehave and act out of order"
"My apologies your majesty. It appears that His Grace couldn't control his temper because of a mere statement" Richard said.
" you said you were going to take her from me! You scoundrel! I should have your head!" James yelled.
"ENOUGH!!!THE BOTH OF YOU!... Guards. Take them to the dungeons to cool off for a bit. Release them when it's time for supper. I cannot stand this rubbish and the sight of these two overgrown babies!"
I sighed and went back in to continue what I was doing..
During dinner time, the were finally released. They looked wretched.. I had asked the maid to prepare food for them at my table and told the guards to bring them to dine with me...
I was already eaten when they entered.. they looked more mellowed now then before..
"Have a seat gentlemen".
They sat at each of my side and started digging into the food..
"I hope you both have learnt your lesson on how to behave because the next time you both put up a show like this, I will have you thrown into the dungeon with the most dangerous animals we have.. am I clear?"
They both responded "yes your Majesty"...
I chuckled as I ate.. when I was a little girl, each time Finnegan and I would fight, Father would lock us in a room and leave us there till we behaved.....and it worked...
