Chapter 16

I was now 8 months in...Allegra became a constant face in the castle because she was also the senior midwife.. She usually examined me and the baby to ensure that we were both in perfect health. My brother Finnie went to the one of the kingdoms that were being ruled by Theria to handle official business...My official duties had to be lightened and shifted onto James for the duration of my pregnancy. The sickness became worse, Serena would have to sit beside me in bed to ensure that i was not running a fever. Just as we were preparing for the heir to arrive, we got grave news from my grandmother's castle...
I was sitting in the gardens, having some tea with Princess Helena. I hadn't seen her since i sent the news to her.
"Oh your majesty, you look splendid..lord your breasts are enormous. Is that a symptom of pregnancy?" She curiously asked as I chuckled
"Helena, you have alot to learn! Yes this is a symptom. One which the Prince consort does not seem to mind. As a matter of fact, he's become more obsessed with me. If not for the captain, James will be by my side nonstop" i replied as i fanned myself.
She laughed and gasped "but wait... oh dear....the captain.. as in, Captain Richard Hughes??"
I nodded "lately, those two have become sort of friends. Remember when they fought?"
She nodded and we both laughed.
But then, my laughter slowly turned into sadness.
"Regina....whatever is the matter my love?" She asked, taking my palms and gently rubbing them.
"Helena i am terrified.....i am mortified...what if I don't make it. James is going to loose his mind, my child, fuck i-"
"Shut up..."
I stopped in my tracks and looked at her.
"Regina. Stop filling that beautiful head of yours with nonsense. You will deliver of this child safely and you will both be healthy.."
I smiled.....That helped to bring up my spirits.
"Then, you must be with James in the room when I'm having this baby.." i pleaded.
Her eyes widened with excitement
"Yes of course your majesty. I would be honored to witness the birth of the heir to the throne."
I smiled. Shortly after, the most magical thing happened. We were taking a walk around the castle's grand lake and my bodyguard heard a sharp yelp from a nearby ditch. I was quite frankly petrified but then he went to look for the source of the noise and out he came holding a white mastiff puppy!
I got sooo excited
"Arthur do tell me the sex of the puppy!"
He chuckled and responded
"It's a female, your majesty"
Helena yelled
"Regina you must keep her!"
Before i could object, she continued "you must also name her Aura...i hear mastiffs are the best dog breed these days."
Aura was handed to me and we immediately both fell inlove with each other even though she was temporarily filthy.
Serena came up from behind and curtsied.
"Your majesty, your highness, Allegra wishes to conduct your usual examination in your chamber."
I nodded as i handed Aura over to her and instructed that she get cleaned up. We got to my chambers and i was asked to lie down naked. Serena helped me out of my garments and i did as instructed.
She began her very invasive examination.
I was usually very annoyed for the rest of the evening after this. She, as usual felt around my belly to make sure the child hadn't turned the wrong way.. After she was done with everything, i grumpily went to dinner. The whole family was seated as they waited for my arrival. I entered and everyone rose from their seats. As i sat, they also sat. We began to eat and have conversations across the table.  Dinner got tiresome for me but i had to get some food into my body. Allegra complained dearly that i was not eating properly so i was subjected to a mandatory five course meal everyday.... My corsets wouldn't fit anymore!
Richard turned to me
"Your majesty, looking radiant as ever."
"Thank you Captain. And I'm sure the Royal army is looking as radiant as i am" as i chuckled a bit.
James added "and we added three hundred men into the army just last month"
"You dont say!" Finnie exclaimed.
"It's quite remarkable i tell you.." Richard replied.
While the rest of the table carried on their conversations, James turned to me, placing one hand on my belly to feel the baby.
"And i hear you got yourself a puppy"
I chuckled and replied "she is painfully adorable"
He smiled. The smile i love so much.
Just then, the palace doors flung open with the herald coming in looking rather glum.
"Your Majesty"
"Why did you have to interrupt dinner Oliver?????" I yelled as i winced in pain from the constant kicking.
"I'm afraid i have bad news my queen" he said, looking straight ahead at me.
"Out with it then" I requested.
He hesitated for a bit then continued "Reports have just reached us concerning the Queen mother, Queen Regina the first".
Dear God....
"No....no please no" i mumbled as James placed his hand on my huge tummy again and started rubbing on it as a way to soothe me..
My mother asked "speak Oliver! You are putting the queen and the heir under stress!"
"The queen mother, Queen Regina the first has died your majesty.."...
There was a temporary pause. Everyone was trying to understand what they'd just heard.
"Long live the queen" he said as he exited
Everyone responded "long live the queen"
