there were exactly three lights in the empty gas station, except for him, of course, and the cashier. he walked around, letting time waste away as his mind wondered away into nothingness. there were no cars outside, only two lights and a road leading into the neighborhood.
he passed all the candy, all the food and drinks, all the supposedly delicious-looking treats. his hand gripped a pack of cigarettes and a grim smile forced its way onto his lips.
with his skateboard under one arm and a pack of cigarettes in the other hand, he walked to the cashier, throwing the pack onto the counter and waiting, subconsiously running his tongue over his lips. the two pieces of metal clicked together. a dumbell on his tongue, and a ring on his bottom lip.
he thanked the cashier and turned, heading over to the door and kicking it open, setting his skateboard down on the sidewalk. his skateboard was black with gray, lime green, and white graffiti all over it.
stepping on and pushing lightly against the pavement, he pulled a lighter out of his pocket and pulled a cigarette out of the pack, stuffing the rest back into the pocket and lighting the one between his fingers, placing it into his mouth and watching as almost transparent smoke trickled out.
the only sounds were his skateboard's wheels rolling over the cracks in the sidewalk, he had gotten used to it, though... music to his ears.
the breeze was blowing his dirty-blonde hair out of his face and eyes. usually, it would hang over his emerald eyes, but not when he rode. his chains clicked against his thigh, a steady rhythm.
once he saw an eerie corner, he turned and the breeze disappeared, blocked by all the tall buildings. he was in an alleyway. it was silent as he passed through it, throwing a cigarette on the ground and grabbing another from the pack, lighting it and returning it to the place where the other had sat.
and when he was out of the alleyway, the breeze reappeared and that grim smile threatened to appear.
but then he heard more wheels riding over cracks in the sidewalk. glancing in the direction, he saw that damn boy riding in his direction.
he never knew his name, he didn't want to. that damn boy was always here whenever he was, at one am. and he never liked him, he didn't know why, he didn't need a fucking reason.
he knew the boy returned the same hatred. just by the way that boy shot him glares, and he shot them right back.
that boy was wearing that same damn striped shirt that he always saw him in.
ignoring the boy, he continued on towards the park.
well, supposedly a 'park'. it contained a set of two swings, a slide, and one huge swing that seemed like a bench. but, he liked calling it a park either way. during the night, the park was the best. the moonlight lit it up and the swings swang ominously in the light breeze.
the other boy was still following him and he was growing irrated. he knew the boy didn't like him, so why follow?
"stop fucking following me, will ya?" he snapped, not looking in the boy's direction.
"no, i'm heading in this direction, so fuck off," the boy spat back with the same amount of disgust.
"i mean, i didn't ask you to follow, you could just move."
"and i never followed, you're just in my space," the boy retorted.
he ignored him and turned into the park. he smoothly stepped off his skateboard and kicked it up into his hand. he walked under a tree and leaned against the rough wood, lifting one foot so the base of his shoe was planted against the wood.
he lighted his cigarette, narrowing his eyes as the boy stopped at the park, leaning against a trashcan, well far away from him.
he frowned. "you're fucking stopping here too?"
he swore the boy rolled his eyes. "yes, i'm waiting for my ride."
he huffed, looking in the opposite direction. he wasn't here for anything especific, just to chill and feel the dark, outside world.
his eyes couldn't help but wander towards the boy and he cursed himself for doing so.
in the dark, all he could make out was his thick and fluffy brown hair. like the color of chocolate mixed in with a tint of honey. he was definitely much smaller than him.
once again, he cursed himself for making out those features.
instead, he pulled out his phone and scrolled through random shit, trying to pretend that the boy just didn't fucking exist.
thunder crashed above and he stiffen, glancing up at the sky, being able to make out the dark cloads in the even darker sky. the moon had vanished behind them, giving them no light at all.
holy fuck.
he said them.
fucking snap out of it clay.
and as he mentally slapped himself, it began to rain, getting harder by the minutes and about five to ten minutes later, it had began to pour.
the tree was pointless for protection and clay groaned, thrusting his skateboard flat on the ground and stepping on, quickly speeding up his pace as he rushed out of the park.
he didn't spare on glance at the boy who still leaned against the trashcan.
and the boy would be fucking fine--not like he cared--he heard a car pulling up and stopping as he sped away and as quick as he could home.
