THIRD PERSON POV

Alastair acted as if nothing happened while Adelina was raking her mind. There were too many questions. Too many problems.

They fought. he thought. Ngunit unti-unti itong napangisi. No, I think even something worse happened.

Pinagdikit niya ang dalawang palad niya at pumikit.

Moon goddess Selene, I pray that you are listening. If you are with mom, please tell her I miss her. Everything is hard lately, there are many questions I have no answers to and I am scared. Please guide me to the right answers.

Her breathing started to get heavier and her chest tightened. Tears started to flow out of her closed eyes.

Please guide Macy and Anna to a better place. Please be kind to them. Please let Abby be okay, please let father calm down, please don't let Alastair suffer. I think he suffered enough.

"Please let me be happy. Please take the pain away. Or mom, if you'd let me, please take me with you."

I know that I should be strong and everything will pass in its own time. I know that everything will be fine in the end but it's very difficult for me right now. I wish I could wash away the pain, I wish I could just move on already. I'm so confused. I'm so scared.

Such thoughts flooded her mind until she slept. The door creaked open as if someone was waiting for the perfect time to enter. Alastair, wearing his night tunic and his hair half done entered.

He walked towards her with silent steps. He observed her tear-stained face and furrowed brows. He placed a finger between her brows until the crease went away. Then he carried her to the center of the bed and covered her in a blanket. His eyes, still emotionless.

I'm sorry child. But the goddess does not exist. You are alone in this world, and you were unlucky enough to be the payment for your family's crimes. Nobody will help you, and your future is dark. Your prayer won't reach anyone and I am not one to be merciful.

ADELINA KEEGAN

I woke up earlier than expected. The birds were chirping and I found the windows closed.

bride huh.

They always leave me out on important things.
