Violet
Luke's eyes met mine; he cheekily raised his free hand to his mouth and burst into a chuckle. He completely let go of me and ran up to his twin, almost jumping over him when he'd reached him. I shook my head in amusement at his eagerness to alert everyone about the lateness of the hour.
"Fuck!" Beau yelped after his brothers informed him.
The group ran in closer and stopped in a little circle. I jogged up next to Alice and James and we all bolted to the gate. We jumped over the fences knowing there was no time to spare. Sitting on the top of the fence, James grabbed Alice by her hips and lifted her down then did the same for me. We didn't stop until we reached the beach further down from the carnival pier. With no more colourful lights, the moon and stars were our only guides.
"Which way are you girls going?" James asked.
Alice looked around her surroundings, 'um'ing and 'urgh'ing.
"That way," Alice pointed in a direction. "I think?"
Beau chuckled, "We better walk you girls home."
I smiled in fondness of Beau's courtesy. But I could hear Alice fidget next to me. She hated being any kind of inconvenience.
"Are you sure? You really don't have to!" Alice sang considerately.
"We're not gonna leave you two to wonder around alone at three in the morning," Jai stated sweetly.
Alice pulled her famous unsure face which Beau ignored. He wrapped an arm around her neck, hauling her in the direction she pointed. She giggled, playfully pushing him away; the two leading the way. James and Daniel followed the two in front. I was facing the twins and they both caught my eye, Jai giving me a cheesy smile and Luke softly biting his lip. They both stepped forward catching on each other. I giggled inwardly and turned to follow the group before they playfully lashed out at each other, cussing and warning the other to get out of their way. Brothers, fighting over the littlest things such as stepping on each other's foot.
Jai soon caught up to me and Luke ran past and stopped next to Skip. I couldn't help frowning a little in disappointment as I watched his back. But I did love Jai's company; he was never one to make anything awkward. I happily listened as Jai started a conversation, him always having something fresh and new to say. The wind picked up again and I shivered, hearing the icy waves crash onto the shore also contributing to my chills. Jai noticed straight away.
"Are you cold Violet? Do you want my sweater?" He offered concerned and lifting his jumper from his body.
"No! No, I'm fine." I replied, not wanting him to freeze.
He gave me a look and I shook my head.
"I'm almost home anyway! Keep your sweater please," I tried convincing him better, but my voice was stuttering and it didn't help at all.
He stopped me and lifted his sweater over his head, putting it over mine. I decided to be a stubborn bitch and stayed completely still. I glared at him as he pulled his sweater over my body and adjusted it around my waist. He carefully pulled bits of my hair out of the neck line and let it flow down my back. I looked over to the others while Jai fixed me up. They all had stopped a bit further up than us, Alice having trouble finding our house.
Luke was staring at us. Him being the only one. I couldn't decipher his expression; it was straight but something else too. A glint in his eye. Jealousy.
My eyebrows furrowed, remembering to breathe deeply before trying to break his gaze. I closed my eyes briefly and opened them to meet Jai's. He had finished with my hair and just stood there, smiling at me. I smiled back and giggled softly at his proud look.
