"Is Jameson okay?" Ivy asked you the next morning before class started.
It was unlike her to ask about him, given her past hatred for your brother. But thinking about how horrible he looked when she entered the dorm the day before, you could understand why she was curious.
"He'll be fine, he's used to this. I just wish they would stop choosing him as their target," you said as you started getting ready for the day. "It just makes me so angry."
"Malfoy's right, he needs to stand up for himself and stop relying on you," she replied with that always annoying tone.
As much as you hated what she was saying, or the fact that it was proving Malfoy said something true, you couldn't bear to think about leaving your brother alone and defenseless.
As twins, you were essentially attached at the hip and had a connection unlike normal siblings. He knew you better than anyone and if you two were separated you simply wouldn't know what to do.
But that voice in the back of your head also kept reminding you that Jameson was about to embark on a journey of his own to the U.S. without you which proved he only needed your help so much. Maybe you should try taking a step back.
Your internal monologue paused as she began talking again.
"Well, you've heard what people are saying right?" Ivy asked genuinely.
The conversation sucked you back in immediately.
"No, what's going on?" you replied confused.
As usual, you were out of the loop on the latest gossip.
"A lot of people think Harry and Hermione are coming back."
"Oh, come on no way! That's a death sentence, everyone knows that," you laughed.
Ivy was not as amused.
"Really, there's no way that's actually happening. I mean the Death Eaters would grab him the second they could," you said in a more serious tone, truly not believing they would return.
Hermione would surely face the same fate. And the pesky little Weasley boy.
"Hey, that's just what I'm hearing. Let's hope it's not true, I'd rather not see any hanging bodies in the main hall," she replied casually, the thought not even phasing her after the past year.
The idea of that sent a shiver down your spine however as you were forced to think about your classmates' limp, lifeless bodies strung up like a trophy.
"Regardless, people are going to start leaving soon if they think a bloodbath will happen," Ivy said, making your mind start jumping to terrible thoughts. "Will you stick around to see everyone slaughtered? Because I'm certainly not."
The thought just made you sick to your stomach. Your parents would pull you out before they ever let you and Jameson be seriously endangered like that.
Right?
You didn't answer her question and did your best to not think about it anymore. Shaking those thoughts away, you grabbed your bag and fixed your uniform one last time before heading out. Another dreadful day of school awaited you unfortunately.
You began to walk out of the door before you stopped yourself and turned around.
"Wanna walk together?" you asked Ivy, attempting to extend an olive branch to her.
She looked at you kindly for once and gave a hint of a small smile. She wasn't used to you or anyone else inviting her to do things together. A tinge of guilt came over you for not trying to include her more given her reaction.
