Ch. One.

    Audrey stood still.

So still, she could've been considered a statue or maybe already did look like a statue. That's what the girl ,that knocked her over, said. She muttered a quick apology, cursed, and ran off before someone else bumped into her then somebody else and the process kept going on. Until Audrey finally decided she shouldn't have stood here.

The doors on this floor were all open. Cardboards, cartons, books, furnitures were being moved in or out as steadily as they could. The previous year students had just moved their belongings out yesterday, and when Audrey arrived here, she could already sense the tense situation here. There was barely any standing space here, forget about hoarding "furnitures". A few people still pushed and staggered to get to their rooms.

Audrey clutched her room key in her right palm, which was sweaty and slightly trembling. Excited, suprised, disappointed gasps could all be heard around her as the students explored their dorms. A clean room would be fine.

A warm, rough hand enveloped hers. "Dad" she thought.

"Oh my god, " He spoke. Much louder for Audrey's liking, " this is quite a trashy place, A big man like me can hardly place a foot here..."

"Dad. You're late" she said, her eyes cast low,  almost on the verge of getting a headache from all the surrounding noises.

" well, I can't be blamed now, can I? We couldn't afford the truck, I took a long time organizing your stuff into the elevator in case anything fell out. It was rough!" He exclaimed, dramtically sighing and running his hair through his almost bald head. She took a few of the cartons her father was holding.

They almost had to bodyslam a few people along the way to get to the respected room. It didn't help that her room was situated at the end of the doorway. Room 116, the door's hinges seem loose.

Audrey kicked the door open, which she had to, considered the boxes in each of their hands. The door banged against the wall and almost scared the family inside. (Oh right, roommates,  Audrey thought).

A short haired girl seemed to be discussing the perfect place for few of her furnitures. She had a lot of them, given the total area of this place. Her mother seemed to flinch when the door kicked opened. Audrey gave a little nod and her father muttered a string of sorries. Seems like her roommate took off more than half of this room. They had two beds already, provided by the college community funds. A couch was brought by her roommate,  a really small wardrobe and a full body mirror. Audrey's was just a study table, a suitcase and books. It seemed the other girl couldn't keep the couch as they never would be able to set a foot on the floor if they kept that big of a thing here.

Audrey's father left first, after organizing all her stuffs. She didn't really mind, her father and her were never close and if it meant not seeing him over the next 3 years, so be it.

The other girls parents left right after and that was when she noticed the room smelled of lavender and slight body odours.  She had a sensitive nose.

"I'm Hana, Hana Whitlock!  I'm from east Nebraska! " Said a low but cheerful voice. She noticed the girl not only had very short hair but also grunge aesthetic clothes. She seemed to come out of a 80's Gothic show. It would make sense if she did.

"Okay" Audrey replied, organizing her study desk, which was really neat and didn't need any make shift.

    " And you are?"

" Audrey. Audrey McCain. California." She replied.

" well do you-" the girl, or Hana was interrupted by someone walking in. It was a girl in braids, glasses, freckles, an oversized hoodie, and a little overweight. Maddie.

" we're not together!" Was what she said as soon as she walked in, " I applied a form too! The registry said it would be done but it's not. "

"I know. I spoke to them too." Audrey replied. Then sensing the visible confusion on Hana's face, said, " This is Maddie,  my childhood friend. Maddie, this is Hana Whitlocks. The registry said, there would be a change this morning about roommates and stuff so when i-" No one interrupted Audrey but she stopped on her own when she noticed neither of the two girls were paying any attention to her. They both seemed confused, terrified and amazed..?

Audrey looked from one to the other...not really understanding the looks Hana and Maddie gave each other. Maddie's eyebrows were cast high and her pupils seemed to widen where as Hana was going back and forth from covering her mouth in horror to pointing to Maddie.

" Damn, you hid it really well, it was blended." Maddie told Hana.

" So did you." Hana said back .

" explain? Somebody?" Audrey spoke, her voice seeming tiny.

" Hana is one of us , it's your benefit really. You can let your guard down around her!" Maddie exclaimed and pulled her hand out for Hana to accept, which she readily did. A handshake.

    " you mean..." Audrey said.

" You're right. I'm a vampire as well."  Hana showed her fangs, which were sharp, bright and a little red, indicating she had just been fed. They were marked with a tiny point of green referring that she was a normal vampire.

    Maddie and Audrey showed theirs.

Maddie's was not that sharp but was not blunt either. Hers were marked with a small dot of blue. It showed that she was a noble vampire. Above the common folks but below the authority.

Audrey showed hers, hers weren't sharp and couldn't almost be considered another pair of canines. But a hint of violet symbolized that she really was a vampire. The violet symbolized she was a servant.

Hana instinctively sighed, and conveyed the message that she were sympathic for her,  which was exactly what Audrey didn't want her to feel. She had grown accustomed to this feeling of pity whenever she showed her fangs. And this was nothing new.

" how did you hide your scent that well?" Audrey inquired, in a way to convert the topic.

" oh its nothing. My dad works for the magistrate, so we do get the premium perfume to hide the smell." The smell of blood, is what Hana meant.

" mine as well." Maddie said.

" But um..." It was easy to know what Hana meant. Audrey was a servant, it wasn't possible for her to own a perfume. It wasn't allowed. The only other verdict could be she was otherwise a Rouge vamp.

" I haven't fed. In days." Audrey replied, it was true. They hadn't had any source of energy since last week,  that was part of the reason Audrey felt those terrible headaches.

" I've always asked you to join ours. My family always welcomes you, you know that." Maddie spoke, and rubbed the small of Audrey's back.

" it's not possible.  Servants aren't allowed to eat with nobles. I'd have you know that. I don't even know how you two are 'childhood friends'" Hana said in a tone, that was considered rude and impolite but they couldn't reply anything back.

" Also. I'd let you know this, you've chosen the worst year to enroll in this college as a servant. I mean it in the best way possible,  you should go back." Hana said in a whispery tone and for the dark atmosphere in the room, it made her words spooky.

" we don't really get you " Audrey spoke.

" and you never will." Hana spoke as she jumped out of her bed, with her purse in her hand and out the door, not before banging it with a loud thud.

    The hinges were really loose.
