Ch. Eleven

Audrey didn't know what she got herself into.

Maddie had insisted they go out and feed today. Therefore, right after William left, they set out for the city. Nashville was mostly rural, but it had developed quite a lot these past few years. There were more urban cities than usual now and the city complex was impressive.

The cities had a few alleys and downtown roads here and there. Obviously not made for kids to hang out. But here they were, hunting down an alley cat and draining off its blood.

Audrey tried not hurting the animal, her heart ached to see the poor animal whimper and cry in pain. There wasn't much she could do though, cause the moment the first drop of blood touched her tongue, it seemed as though a fire in her soul was ignited and she was finally her true self. Fangs out and devouring half the blood of the cat, the cat was almost unconscious by now. The street bloody and crimson.

Maddie touched Audrey's shoulder to bring her out of her trance. Audrey turned towards her and Maddie noticed Audrey's cheeks were fuller and slightly pink in color, it was the blood.

They glanced at the bloodied body of the cat and knew they would be in trouble if anybody saw them here.

" Let's return from the top. We don't want anyone suspecting us." Maddie said, she pulled the hoodie down her face.

"You're right." Audrey said, she grabbed Maddie's hand and they climbed through the pipes up the building. They both hadn't trained in weeks and their body was still too weak to fight, but a mere task like climbing a building was simply a piece of cake.

As soon as they climbed up the building, they were shook. There were no stairs to climb up the building, it wasn't a terrace. Unless you were spider man or something and you used your webs.

Or you held on to the pipe. But right in front of them, on a nearby building sat a person in lavender. Her dress was flowing in the wind and she seemed to be in a deep thought.

Audrey reached out her hand to Maddie who was still climbing up. Maddie staggered on the last pipe, she misplaced her foot but at the last moment, she was able to grab onto Audrey's arm and pull herself up the building.

The pipe created an unbelievably loud noise which succeeded in gaining the strangers attention. In just a few seconds, Audrey and Maddie were springing from one building to the other, their hoodies falling open by how fast they sped, it almost felt fun to be doing this.

Audrey stopped and threw a stone at the stranger following them closely behind. It worked and she thought she could escape when the person took off their hairpin and aimed it right at Audrey's shin. Ow.

Audrey fell to the floor in the most disgraceful way she could. She signaled Maddie to run away but knowing Maddie, she would rather die than leave her best friend in an injured state.

Audrey felt the stranger drawing near, and pull the hoodie away from her face.

" Wait a minute." She heard Maddie say, Audrey wasn't being able to get up. The hairpin was sure sharp. She felt a sharp ting at her leg.

" Aren't you the bio kid?" The stranger said, she again glanced at Audrey.

" I am. And you're Amber?" Maddie said. Oh,it was William's sister and Maddie's biology classmate. They both had described her sweet and nice, through their descriptions she didn't seem like the type to stab someone with a hairpin. Then again, she didn't really know Amber.

" Yes. I'm Amber. What were you guys doing that high up a building?" Amber inquired, she had a dangerous glow in her eyes, a huge contrast to the smile on her lips.

" We'd like to ask you the same." Audrey tried getting up on her feet but the hairpin prevented her. She shifted her attention to the pin, and tried taking it off. As soon as she did so, blood spread everywhere. The hairpin had sure dug deep.

"I was in a family dinner, I came out for fresh air." Amber smiled, she was about to apologize for her actions when the three of them heard loud footsteps running towards them.

Audrey shifted her red hair on one side to see a figure running towards them through a narrow road. As the person approached them, she saw better. Golden curls, bouncing up and down while He ran, a three piece suit gracing his body, while he tried running in his tight pants. His eyes showed concern which only turned into panic the more he came near. He looked like the type of model you'd pay millions to watch.

" Amber!!!!" He shrieked, " Are you alright?" He nudged carefully at his sister's shoulder, the place where Audrey had hit with that hell of a stone. It was a slightly bruised, purple and blue. But it would be okay in a few days.

William's gaze turned more worried when he looked at the bloody injury on Audrey's leg. He glanced at the hairpin near and his vision  went blurry.

" Amber, what did you do?"

" I'm sorry! I wasn't thinking straight, i just suspected them and in a fit of rage, I aimed the hairpin at her." Amber looked guilty and bowed towards Audrey. Audrey waved her off while Maddie complained.

" The hairpin is poisonous. The tip of it is dipped in poison, mainly for my sisters protection, the poison will make you feel weak, see, you can barely stand." William told her in a tone somebody would use to talk to a child. He gave a warning eye to Amber who shrugged.

" It'll be fine. I'll be able to wal-" Audrey was cut off mid sentence when she felt strong arms slipping behind her waist and knees. The next second, she was lifted off the ground and into a broad chest. Reflexively, she held onto William's neck with both hands.

William took care to not move Audrey much. While they were still in this position. Maddie tore her hoodie off a bit, and covered Audrey's leg so as to not let the poison spread further. Audrey felt hot all over, it was like a fever had taken over her.

" Put me down!" Audrey yelled.

" Now now, getting feisty, are we?" William smiled and it was like a spell that quitened Audrey. She was in a trance,  totally gone for that smile.

She was not able to say anything anymore, the poison taking over her. She felt William walk downtown with her in his arms. His chest was warm and as her eyes slowly closed, a last thought entered her mind, William was definitely even more stunning up close. She sighed into his chest before blacking out.
