Ch. Seven

Audrey was shivering.

He was definitely a pure-blood.

Her history teacher was definitely a pure blood.

The moment she walked into the classroom, she knew something was wrong. The room was covered in maps, posters of various rulers, and small notes here and there. But no sign of the teacher. She was also relieved to know that Hana was in the same class as her. Audrey was majoring in history so she was already a level up than her age, which is why Maddie wasn't here with her, even though they both took history.

It had not even been 2 minutes since she settled down when the door opened and the first thing she noticed was the smell. Definitely a pure blood. The smell was intoxicating but also pure with a murderous intent to it. The humans, fortunately were unfazed but you could see how the others, trembled with fear even though the teacher walked in with a smile on his face.  Although a teacher wouldn't harm servants, would he?

He did not look strict though, his smile was kind and he knew what impact his rank held on a few people in the class but it appeared that he was just here to basically do his job : teaching.

He introduced himself as Mr.Richard and said, " Good Afternoon Students! I'm here as a substitute for Mrs. Smith, she recently passed away as a few of you guys already know. They had little time to hire anyone,  and I'll be here for just one year. So be patient with me, I'm not really a teacher so i do not know how to handle a class of 50. But hopefully, you all are well-behaved throughout the year and we'll be able to wrap up things nicely.  I wish you the very best." He smiled.

Audrey looked over her shoulder and was terribly suprised. The ever so stoic Hana with an unmoving face seemed flushed. Her ears tinted red and she was fidgeting with her fingers. If Audrey didn't know any better, she would have said Hana Whitlocks was blushing. Audrey looked up to Hana's eyes and they held a soft gaze and she had a hint of a smile on her lips. Audrey followed Hana's line of sight and it was directed at their history teacher, Mr.Richard.

Wait a minute.

Audrey received a missed call from Maddie as soon as her history class ended. Mr. Richard might not be strict but the amount of lecture he gave on  The Age of Obama may or may not have bled their ears. She called Maddie back .

Maddie ranted to her about how cool and mysterious their college library was, she was totally impressed by the time Maddie stopped talking and said she would meet Maddie outside the library.

As soon as she cut the call, she received a message. It was from her Dad, he said, " hello sweetie, I hope you're doing fine. Have a nice year at the college. " That's all  it said.

She replied a thank you back out of politeness. Audrey never had the best relationship with her father but it was okay if she could avoid the man and maybe text him from behind a phone screen. Their bond kind of vanished as soon as her mother ran away. Nobody tried searching for her as her father said it was for the best. No, it wasn't, she had wanted to scream.

Her thoughts clogged her brain and she didn't realize when she was already standing in front of the library. Maddie tugged her arm and pulled her inside the library and it was as grand as the day she'd first seen it.

They walked back and forth between various bookshelves, so many books to be read in this world. So many different worlds to enter and close. So many different worlds to stay in forever.

Audrey and Maddie each chose a book and sat down across each other on a nearby table. Audrey was almost settled down when Maddie pulled her with such a force she was sure she broke a limb.

" ow-"

Maddie whispered, " Look, it's the same guy that helped you in the canteen" She pointed her finger towards the table beside them, which if you consider is quite rude to point fingers.

Audrey turned her head, her long red hair shielding her face so she could look properly. But she was aware of how that made her look like a stalker. Sure enough, it was the same guy. The Golden curls, the lean figure. She didn't know how long she stared at him because when he turned around, Audrey was a bit zoned out when she noticed those green eyes.

" If you're going to look, look properly. " He meant it in a teasing manner but Audrey was a blabbering mess right there. Maddie pretended she never noticed. What a friend.

" I wasn't. It was just...i did not, I mean. If you.. I.." Audrey spoke, not being able to complete a sentence. The guy looked amused. Audrey felt Maddie nudge her arm, " just tell him you want to thank him."  Audrey nodded.

" Well, I just wanted to thank you for helping me out um, today afternoon. " She bowed, hoping her red hair would cover her flushed face. She hated awkward interactions like these.

The guy seemed flushed. Before he could speak Audrey extended her hand, " I'm Audrey McCain. Nice to meet you" She looked up.

He took her hand, and it was hard to pay attention when all she could focus on was how easily her hand enveloped in his. He had long veiny fingers and then she remembered he took arts as well, those fingers were made for art.

" I'm William. Glad to meet you too. " He smiled and took his hand back from her.

Maddie emerged from behind Audrey, startling the guy, William.

Maddie had a wild grin on her face and before Audrey could stop her, she went on, " I'm Maddie,  I'm her friend! We're absolutely grateful you helped her yesterday. We'd like you to join us for tea this evening as a thanks? You're welcome to if you want to!" Maddie ranted off unaware of the panic she was causing to Audrey.

" Maddie no-" Audrey spoke at the same time William said, " Okay." Audrey looked pained. They weren't supposed to hang out with humans. William definitely was a human, he didn't have any kind of smell on him and it didn't look like he hid his smell, Maddie would have noticed otherwise.

" I've nothing to do anyways. Thank you for inviting me to tea." He said, winked, carried his bag and walked out of the library door.

Just like that.
