''Can I take some from your fries? You can take from my spaghetti!''
''Sure.''
Y/n and Reki put their plates closer to each other, each of them taking food from the other. The food, however, had just been served, which only meant one thing - it was burning hot.
''FUCK!''
The rest of their friends laughed loudly at the duo, who were both breathing excessively in order to try and get their burning tongues to calm down.
''Here,'' Langa said as he handed his two friends cups of cold water. Each of them took it and drank it, sighing in relief.
''You're an idiot,'' Hiro commented, mocking his sister, who rolled her eyes.
''So are you. It runs in the family.''
''Shut up,'' Hiro said as he looked at his watch. ''We still have some time before the movie supposedly ends, thank God.''
''Movie?'' asked Shadow as he took a bite of his pizza. ''What movie?''
''We told our parents we're going to see a movie so we can sneak Y/n out of the house,'' Hiro explained.
''Which movie?''
''. . . there was no movie, Shadow, it was just a lie.''
''Oh.''
Y/n snorted at that, continuing to eat her spaghetti. It felt nice, being surrounded by such nice people after she'd won a competition against Adam.
And yet, her mood didn't remain as good, as she couldn't help but dread going home.

''So I have to tell them you went on a date?''
''Just tell them I met up with my friends, they would pester me if they heard I have a date.''
Y/n nodded at her brother and picked up her skateboard. The teenagers - Reki, Langa, Miya and Y/n - had decided to leave, as the older guys had decided to start drinking and none of them were in the mood to look after grown men. Besides, they had their very responsible friend, Cherry Blossom, to look after them - not that he wanted to.
Langa had offered to drive Miya home as he had to return the Dope Sketch scooter, thus leaving Reki and Y/n on their own, Reki volunteering to walk Y/n home, as it was very much dark outside and he was worried - not that he'd tell anyone.
''Why so quiet?'' Reki asked. They had been walking for a few minutes now and all Y/n had done was stare at the ground and clutch her skateboard. It was unusual, considering it was such a lively night.
''Just thinking,'' Y/n admitted, kicking a stone that had been in her way, which caused her to chuckle, as it reminded her about Adam. She wondered what had happened to him after.
''About?''
''How this was probably my last time skating.''
Reki stopped in his tracks. Y/n walked a few steps further before realizing Reki had stopped and turned around to face him, meeting an irritated expression.
''Your . . . last time?''
''Yeah,'' Y/n shrugged as if it were no big deal - which was possibly the furthest thing from the truth. ''I got lucky this time. It's not like I can keep lying that Hiro's bringing me to the movies every time there's 'S' or I just want to go out to skate.''
Reki pursed his lips, realizing she's right. ''What if we convince them that skateboarding is fine? Of course, we can't tell them about 'S', but skateboarding in general?''
Y/n scoffed. ''As if we can convince them, they're pretty strict.''
Reki stepped forward and grabbed her free hand, a smile on his face. ''But we can try! If we tell them how much you love skateboarding, I'm sure they'll understand!'' he tried to convince her. ''I know how much you love skateboarding and I don't want you to have to give it up. Besides . . . I still want to skate with you, Y/n. Please.''
She stared into his eyes, biting the inside of her lip nervously. Technically, what was the worst that could happen? How much more grounded could she get? How much more could they take away from her?
It was not the right moment - then again, when was ever the right moment? - yet she leaned in closer to Reki, giving him a quick peck, so quick that he barely even realized what was happening by the time she was pulling away.
A small smile graced her lips as she shook her head, her free hand carresing. ''There's no point in trying anymore, Reki. Maybe one day, I'll return to skating, once I'm out of the house. But until then . . . Mystique is done for.''
Reki watched her, his hand covering her own that was still on his cheek. ''But . . . it can't end like that, can it?''
''We don't always get what we want in life, and that's that,'' Y/n said and let her skateboard fall on the ground so she could tightly wrap her arms around his shoulders, burying her face in the crook of his neck. ''It's not like this is a goodbye or anything. I'm just not going to skate for a while. We'll still see each other at school. Lunch breaks can be our thing.''
Reki let his skateboard fall on the ground, too, wrapping his arms around her as well. ''I'm gonna miss skating with you,'' Y/n mumbled.
''. . . Me too. But it's not going to be for too long. . . right?''
''Hopefully not,'' Y/n said before she pulled away, pressing another kiss on his cheek, causing his face to warm up. She crouched for a moment, picking up the new skateboard she'd received and holding it out for Reki to take. ''Keep this safe for me, will you? I'll ask for it again some day.''
He took the skateboard from her, nodding his head. ''I'll guard it with my life!''
Y/n laughed at his statement, causing him to chuckle as well. ''I appreciate it.''
The two stared at each other for a few seconds before Y/n spoke. ''I should probably get going.''
''Yeah.''
She took her 'S' pin from her jacket and grabbed Reki's free hand, putting the badge on it and closing his fingers around it, then turned around and started to walk in the direction of her house, her hands stuffed in her pockets - she wished Reki was coming with, alas, she knew he shouldn't.
''By the way!'' She turned around at the call, seeing Reki stand where he was before, now holding each skateboard in hand. ''I enjoyed that kiss back then, too!''
That kiss . . . the one at the sleepover? Y/n asked herself, a smile breaking on her face again.
''I did, too!'' she called back, waving at him before laughing and continuing on her way home - they were both aware now, no need to rush it, right?
Mystique's career might've been over, but at least one good thing came out of it.
