"Do you remember that?" Jungkook asked with a small smile as he held Taehyung's hand, but his smile slowly dropped when he watched Taehyung shake his head 'no'.
"I obviously did. That's when my love for you began to grow. I'll never forget that day because what made this all begin." Jungkook explains as he rubs Taehyung's hand for his own comfort, for his own reassurance.
It's been awhile since he told anyone about this, been awhile since he told someone other than a therapist.
"Then what happened?" Taehyung asks, after the moment of silence.
"Oh, anyway, well this was during your parents' car ride."
.
.
.
"Mommy! Mommy! Look, I made a new friend, his name is Jungkook. He missed the bus, can he ride to school with us?" Taehyung rapidly ranted to his mother while dragging Jungkook into their front lawn.
Taehyung's mother bent down to Jungkook's size and examined the boy. She then smiled and extended her hand. "Hi, Jungkook. I'm Kim Jiyoung. You could ride with us if you want to, but I'll just need your parents' permission. Could you call them?" Jiyoung informed him as she puts Taehyung's things into her car.
Jungkook nodded as he started to pull out his phone. "Hi mom, I was wondering if I could ride with a friend to school. His mom said I just needed your's or dad's permission. Can I go?" Jungkook told his mother through the phone.
After a long beat of silence, Jungkook spoke again.
"Oh, okay! Thanks, I'll tell her right now." Jungkook said before he hung up and put his phone away.
"Based on that phone call and that cute little smile, I'm guessing your mother said yes." Jiyoung said with a knowing smile. Jungkook smiled as he nodded to her statement.
"Yay! Come on Jungkook! Let's go to my mommy's car, you can buckle me up!" Taehyung squealed as he once again, dragged Jungkook.
While in the car, Taehyung excitedly got into the car and patiently waited for Jungkook to strap him in. He practically yelled at his father when he attempted to buckle Taehyung in. Once Jungkook got in on the other side of Taehyung, he begged for Jungkook to put on his seat belt. Which Jungkook did for him of course.
The car ride went smooth, Taehyung asked Jungkook a lot of questions. But they were simple 'yes' or 'no' questions that Jungkook either answered with a small nod or a light shake of his head.
When they arrived at school though, sadness had fallen over the two of them. Taehyung was in first grade and Jungkook was in fourth grade. Both on opposite sides of the school.
But lucky for them, the shared the same lunch periods.
Taehyung had happily pulled out his lunch box and placed it on the table. As he was taking out his peanut butter and strawberry jelly sandwich, he spotted a certain raven on the lunch line.
He happily set his sandwich down as he dashed over to the raven. When he approached the raven head he was a little startled to notice that it wasn't Jungkook, he muttered a sheepish apology and turned back to his table.
He spotted another raven but just to make sure it was Jungkook, he checked the facial features. The facial features matched exactly to the one that was imprinted in his mind. He ran over and caught the raven just in time before he exited off the lunch line and out of the cafeteria.
"Hey, why aren't you eating in here?" Taehyung asked curiously. "Too many people and the noise is too much." Jungkook answered. "Hmm. Okay! I'll eat where you'll eat! Uh, where do you eat?" Taehyung beamed. "I eat in the library." Jungkook told him. "Oh! With your friends?" Taehyung asked.
Jungkook bit his lip nervously, before he nodded. "B-but they're not here today." Jungkook lied. "Oh, okay! So it's just me and you?" Taehyung asked as he linked arms with Jungkook. Being somewhere quiet with Taehyung seemed to have made heat raise in Jungkook's cheeks. He nodded as an answer for Taehyung's question.
"Okie dokie! Lemme just get my lunch box and I'll meet you right back here." Taehyung said before he skipped off back into the lunch room.
When he came back, he interlaced Jungkook's and his fingers together and looked up at Jungkook cutely. "Let's go!" Taehyung beamed as he jumped up and down.
Jungkook took a moment to look at their interlaced hands before he led the younger to the library.
Is this what friends do?
When they reached the library, the librarian stopped them at the front desk. "Hold it there kids, does your teachers know you guys are here?" She asked as she glanced at them. She looked new and she seems to operate differently than the old one. "Yes ma'am, my teacher even gave us a pass but I guess I must've left it at the cafeteria. I'll bring one again tomorrow." Jungkook explained to her. She looked at them warrily before waving them off.
They sat in the quietest corner, listening to the sound of their light munching and Taehyung's endless talking.
For the rest of the year they carried out their days like this, driving to school together, eating at the library together, playing at the playground together, making snow angels together, feeding the ducks at the pond together, picking the flowers together, and drawing together.
They did all of that together throughout the rest of the year.
But if Jungkook was being honest....
He hasn't been honest. Not one bit since he met Taehyung. His mom never gave him permission to ride with Taehyung's family to school. He never had a pass that day in the library and continued to not have one. He never liked playgrounds, he didn't like playing with the snow, since animals had always hated him he hated them back, he had a pollen allergy, and drawing always made his hands cramp.
But he always found himself doing these things with Taehyung, lying to people and lying to Taehyung. All because he didn't want the younger to go, he didn't want the younger to be sad, he always wanted to be together with Taehyung and did the things Taehyung wanted to do because he had hoped Taehyung wanted to be with him too.
Jungkook wouldn't say it to Taehyung verbally but deep down he always wanted to say...
Thank you for being my friend.
