'It's so quiet here, and I feel so old. This house no longer feels like home'
The sun shone brightly over the holiday apartment that Coco was staying in with her long term partner, Lando. She smiled to herself as she walked outside into the garden area, her eyes casting over the beautiful view of the land beyond the hill they stayed on. Walking towards the edge, she leaned against the brick wall as she stared out at the magnificent landscape.
"There you are," she heard Lando's voice which made her jump.
Turning to face him, her smile faltered as she saw he didn't look too happy. She wondered what was wrong with him; when he had left in the morning, he had been in a good mood. He was only going to the track today, walking it, doing a couple of interviews and sim work. "Hey," Coco walked around the pool towards him; she painted her smile back on as she approached him. "Are you okay?"
Lando pushed his hair back awkwardly as he looked at the young woman. Everything about her was perfect. He stepped back, surprising her; he watched as she halted, looking confused at his hesitation before he rubbed his right arm with his left hand. "I'm just not feeling myself," he admitted before he shrugged his shoulders. He didn't want the attention she was giving him right now.
He looked her up and down; it was just another day where she looked out of this world. Her champagne curls were draped over her right shoulder, exposing her beautifully bronzed left shoulder. The dress she wore was one of his favourites, and seeing her amazing smooth tanned skin against the white floral pattern only made everything he wanted to say to her seem harder. He didn't notice how his sad look came across as disapproving to Coco, and she was quick to wrap her arms around herself and pull up the front of her dress even though it hadn't slipped down, her eyes checking that the loose sleeves on her arms hadn't exposed more than she hoped.
"Do you want to go out for dinner?" Coco asked him, hoping to cheer him up. She only wanted to make him happy; she smiled as she awaited his answer.
Lando looked away from her; he hated how she was everything he had ever wanted and more. He knew inside he wasn't good enough for her; she would always be worth more than him. Coco had done everything that he hadn't. She'd worked extra hard at school before going to university. Just last week, she got a call; she'd been offered to stay on at the hospital she was doing her placement in after the summer. Coco had been working in the evenings too, club work at the weekends, shelf stacking in the evenings on weekdays. She never asked for anything, she did everything with a smile on her face and always had a tale to tell. She always found time to see Lando, be with him, listen to his problems and issues, and make him happy.
"I'm not hungry," he mumbled before he turned away from her and went back into the apartment.
Coco swallowed hard as she watched him walk away.
