Edward, Rosalie and Emmett ran around the forests all day, trying to leave Bella's scent in a different direction than she would really be. Alex had joined Carlisle and Esme, they had to know if James and Victoria actually caught the scent.

"He's changed his course." Edward yells as he runs to the house, the rest of the Cullens and Alex following him. "I'm going to her." He gets in the car but Carlisle stops him.

"Not alone." Carlisle gets in the drivers seat and Emmett in the back. The father of the Cullens looks at Alex and sees her hesitance. He knew that she was thinking about Jasper, Bella was human and close to him but she also knew that if there was just a little bit of blood; she wouldn'tbe able to hold herself. "Don't worry, he'll be okay. You go and protect Charlie." She quickly hugs the man and goes towards the house of the one and only Charlie Swan. She knew that Rosalie and Esme were outside, listening to whatever they had to say.

She softly knocks and looks at the house. Alex knew he was inside, but the lights were off except for the TV blasting some random show.

"Alex." Charlie sounds surprised as he sees her and she smiles at him, though she notices the teary eyes and the happy facade.

"Heya Charles." She looks past him. "Room for a beer with a friend? Peter's gone and I could use some advice." She didn't, but she knew that he wouldn't let her stand in the cold. Charlie was awkward, but not inhuman. He opens the door further and gestures for her to come in.

"I saw you weren't driving?" He says as he hands her a cola. It was out of character for him to hand an underage person an alcoholic beverage and Alex hadn't expected it from him. "What do you need advice in?"

"I think Peter's going to go off the deep end." Charlie narrows his eyebrows and leans a little forward. He didn't know anything about the two Spure's but they somehow could afford everything and live somewhere without their parents. "How do I stop him?"

"I don't think you can really stop something like that. Unless you want to use force." He says with a small shrug and the teensiest smile. "All you can do is love them the best you can.." he stares off out of the window and Alex feels her heart ache for the man. He lost his wife and now his daughter. This was not what she had meant when she had asked Edward to protect Charlie. She heard what Bella had said.

The sounds of the TV take over as they watch a game, silently enjoying the other's company.

The phone rings and Alex' eyes snap towards it, seeing Charlie frown out of the corner of her eyes. Recently, the only times the phone rang was for Bella.

He walks towards it and Alex takes another sip of her beer, relaxing in the lounge chair.

"Swan." Charlie's gruff voice answers and Alex narrows her eyes at the face Charlie makes. She didn't like listening in on conversations. "Yes, oh God, I'll be there." He hangs up the phone and runs towards the door.

"Charlie?" Alex yells and he stops, suddenly not thinking about the call anymore but about his guest. "Something wrong?"

"Bella fell down a flight of stairs and crashed through a window. I have to go to her." Alex holds back a chuckle at the fact that he doesn't even question the clumsiness.

"Yeah sure, you have a bag?" He looks at her as if she's dumb and she smiles kindly at him. "Fresh clothes, toothbrush, passport, wallet." He nods and quickly runs up the stairs. Alex walks towards the fridge and pulls out a bottle of water and pours the last of the coffee in a mug, just in time to hand them towards the rushing chief of police. "I'll lock the door. Wish her well."

He stares at the coffee and water and looks up at her. "Thank you." He winks at her and rushes out the door.

Alex stands in the door opening and grabs her phone, looking for a text from either Peter or Jasper. She feels a hand on her shoulder and flinches, wanting to turn the person away but she stops once she sees that it's Rosalie. "He'll be okay." She was referring to Peter. The male of the siblings had made quite an impact on the beautiful and strong vampire couple, there was a friendship that couldn't be hurt. "Let's go." She wraps an arm around Alex and she leads her to the Cullen house. "Get some sleep." Rosalie smiles at her as she pushes her to Jasper's room. She grabs an extra blanket and lays it on top of Alex. "I'll send him up when he's here."

Rosalie may have been a lot of things, but a liar was not one of them. Jasper had searched the Spure house but to no avail, his girl wasn't there. He wanted to see her, touch her, know that she was okay; but when Rosalie sent him up to his own room, where she was sleeping.. he couldn't. He didn't find himself able to wake her up. So he just sat on the bed next to her, content with the way the she wrapped herself around him as easily as if she had been doing it for years. He looks down at her and smiles, giving her a soft peck on her forehead. He wouldn't let her get hurt.
