"Ah! I knew it!" Someone growled, right after a thud could be heard.
"Catra! Are you ok?" Adora asked, turning around.
"Yeah, just no more cuddles on a single bed: we are too old for this." She replied, sitting on her own bed.
"I guess you are right." The blonde admitted displeased.
"How are you now?" The other dared to ask.
"Weak and hungry, still a little shocked from the panic attack: this was the strongest in a very long time." She said exhausted.
"It was so scary...when did they start?" Catra questioned, hugging her legs to her chest.
"Some weeks after the adoption: I couldn't sleep alone, I had too many nightmares about stressful things, or I just couldn't relax. The more I got slept deprived, the more the anxiety became unbearable and they started. When I couldn't hide them anymore, my foster sister, Mara, tried to sleep with me...and it worked, a little.
Unfortunately, about a year later, we had a car accident and I don't know what happened, I just woke up and they told me she was dead, but she had saved me.
Since that I had to rely on pills, but thankfully this friend of mine, Perfuma, started making some weird gums that make me faint without really drugging me. Without her, I couldn't be in the military academy.
Angella insisted on making me go to a therapist, but I always declined: I'm not ready and it's expensive anyways. So...yeah, that's pretty much all of it." Adora explained.
"What about the orphanage? She said you couldn't go back on your own." The brunette asked worriedly.
"Oh, yeah...that...when Mara died and I moved here, when I had space for both of us, I came back to the orphanage to ask Miss Weaver how I could bring you out, but as I mentioned I had changed my plans, she got very angry. She was so disappointed in me that it made me sick, it felt like I had failed and took all the wrong decisions. She offered me to live with her, to help me fixing everything and going back on the right path. I hadn't slept in forever, I had my hair loose, I dressed like a twelve years old boy and I had pierced my ears. She cleaned me up, gave me more appropriate clothes, got rid of the undue earrings and sent me home to pack my stuff and move back in the Horde. But when Glimmer and her mom saw me, they freaked out and forbid me to go back.
The only time I did it again, was to take the documents for you, but Angella and her lawyer escorted me. She said Miss Weaver had to much influence on me." Adora narrated, shocking the other girl.
"I'm sorry for Mara...and I'm sorry Weaver manipulated you again." Catra said.
"Did she really influence me so much? Glimmer said that I looked like she reseted me, that it was like I had no willing." The blonde muttered, locking eyes with the heterocromatic ones.
"Yeah, Adora...she abused you too, she turned you into some selfless sacrificial lamb...I think her plan was making sure that you would have succeeded and that later, at some point, she would have asked you to pay her back." Catra admitted.
The girl sighed and looked down at her legs, curling up as well.
"But you? How do you picture your future?" The brunette asked.
The girl hesitated, but didn't flinch, nor changed expression. She just took some time to think about it.
"I want to stick with your plan, but add something more. I mean, this is my future: graduating with Glim and Bow, then coming home to you. You becoming a badass lawyer, so we both do our best for great careers and money. Working and meeting with my friends, having friday dinners upstairs and then doing sleepovers with the three of you." Adora said.
"And what happens when we all graduate? What if I find someone? We can't live together forever. Or what if you guys are located in different places?" Catra asked.
"I don't know...it might sounds crazy but I never imagined myself older then this. A part of me thought that...I would have died young, maybe? I really don't know what happens next." She admitted, looking at her with scared eyes.
The brunette sat more composed and opened her arms.
"Come here" she invited her and the girl stood up immediately, running to her.
Adora sat in Catra's lap and they hugged each other.
"You should text your boss that you will stay home tomorrow too. It's ten pm and we just woke up. And I'm hungry too." The brunette said.
Adora chucked and nodded against her shoulder. She went crazy for her warmth, for her precious and rare acts of explicit kindness, for her profume, for her soft hair and really anything about her.
"There's frozen pizza in the fridge" the blonde remembered.
"I bought those yummy fried mozzarella sticks too." The latina added.
Adora broke their hug to look at her with shiny eyes and the biggest smile.
She climbed down from her friend and took her hand to lead them to the kitchen.
