Karen and her family invited (Y/N) and Andy over for Thanksgiving.
(Y/N)'s POV:
Now that Andy and I are Karen's parents Agnes and Harold's neighbors, we'd be getting closer to Karen and her personal life more.
Karen called last week and asked if me and Andy would like to come to dinner at her parent's house for Thanksgiving. I told her I'd check with Andy but it was a sweet gesture. Karen told me that Richard and his fiance Mary would also be there. I feel bad cause Karen was still looking for Mr. Right. Somehow, I managed to sway her away from the man she married in the old past.
Andy thought it would be nice to get to know Harold and Agnes more so he was cool with eating at the Carpenters house.
I asked Karen if we should bring anything. She told me just our appetite. I still made a sweet potato pie to bring anyhow.
We walked over to the Carpenters house. The chill of fall was in the air. It was cooler Thanksgiving.
It was a short walk between the two houses and we found ourselves at the Carpenters door fast.
Andy knocked. The door shortly opened and Karen greeted us at the door.
"(Y/N)! Andy!" Karen exclaimed.
"Hi KC!" I told Karen. I couldn't exactly hug her cause I had the pie in my hands.
"I told you you didn't have to bring anything," Karen said giving me a side hug as me and Andy walked in.
It was sort of surreal being in the Carpenters house. I remember watching videos in the future of how big and spacious the house was. I don't think I've ever stepped into the house till today.
"So up the stairs is my old bedroom along with Rich's. To the left is where we have our music room. The kitchen is this way where my mom is at," Karen said leading us through the rooms.
"This house is beautiful. No wonder this neighborhood is beautiful," Andy whispered to me.
"I thought so too," I replied.
We had met Agnes and Harold a few times for some of the Carpenters shows back a few years ago and Karen's birthdays of course. I wasn't super accquainted with either of them. Andy wasn't at all.
"Mom you remember (Y/N) and her husband Andy?" Karen said getting her mom's attention.
"Yes of course Karen I do. Nice to see you kids again," Agnes replied wiping her hands clean of the mashed potatoes she was working on.
"It's nice to see you again too," I said smiling.
"Mom, (Y/N) brought a pie for dessert. It's sweet potato!" Karen said happily.
"That's nice Karen. Put it in the fridge for me," Agnes said distracted.
"Call me if you need help," Karen told her mom.
"Let's go find my dad. He's probably in the music room," Karen told me and Andy.
"This house is spacious and beautiful Karen," I told her trying to make small talk.
"I'm glad me and Rich bought it when we first made it big," Karen said smiling at me.
Karen brought us to the music room and sure enough Harold was in there with Richard and his fiance, Mary.
"Hey dad, Rich, Mary!" Karen said as we walked in the door.
"Hey (Y/N), Andy," Rich said from one of the chairs by the cassette player.
"You must be Mary," I said reaching my hand out to greet Rich's fiance.
"Haha yes I'm guessing Rich talks about me eh?" Mary said with a laugh.
"Maybe haha it's nice to meet you," I said.
"Likewise," Mary said with a smile.
Andy was sort of quite the whole time. At times like this, he's usually quite cause he's overwhelmed.
I grabbed his hand and squeezed his hand.
Andy gave me the look of "I'm ok."
"You both make beautiful music," Harold told me and Andy.
"Thank you so much Mr. Carpenter that means a lot," I told him.
"Yes, Mr. Carpenter that means a lot," Andy told him.
"It's hard to believe (Y/N) got her start with us," Karen told her dad.
"That's right. You helped Karen play drums more during shows," Harold replied.
"If it wasn't for (Y/N), I would have lost my passion for my drums. Plus, it helped spawn her career too," Karen said elbowing me.
Just then, Agnes came knocking on the door and came in.
"Dinner will be ready at 4. Harold, will you come carve the turkey?" Agnes asked him.
I looked at my watch and it was already 15 till 4.
"Coming dear," Harold said getting up out of the chair and following Agnes.
"Mom gets stressed during big events," Richard told me and Andy.
"We're simple folk haha," I replied.
"Yes we are," Andy said laughing to Rich.
"You know how parents get," Mary said to us.
"But they are basically family," Karen pipped in.
"Aw," I said out loud.
"Maybe we should see if mom needs help," Karen said to Rich.
We all shuffled out to the dining room and found the table perfect.
"Let's sit down and begin," Agnes said gesturing to the table.
"Sit by me," Karen whispered motioning for me to follow her.
I followed and so did Andy. Harlod sat at the head of the table. On the left side, it was me, Karen and Andy. On the other side was Agnes, Richard and Mary.
Agnes said a prayer and we commenced eating. Another holiday was upon us and gone. It will be a Thanksgiving I'll never forget.
