It's been a week.
A week without hearing from Mason. It was a week without cracking stupid jokes with him, a week without him complimenting me, a week without hearing his contagious smile fill up the room, a week without anything, a week without him.
It's been a very long week.
Although I actually have a shift today I cancelled, saying I was still feeling sick. I've been 'sick' for a week now and even though Hayley insisted on visiting I refused, knowing Hayley's already very busy with running the cafe now that her favourite employee isn't there. Even though it isn't a secret that she doesn't like Scarlett, she still has Skye, who always is the one to lift the mood up when was needed. I know Hayley will do anything for that little cafe, hence why I somewhere feel guilty that I'm not helping her and Skye. I have bigger problems though, the main one being Mason Tony Mount. He didn't call, text or even left a voicemail for the last week and it made me go crazy. I meant everything I said though, but I also told him the harsh truth. Mason couldn't expect me to just ignore other male attention if he hasn't put a label on it yet, which is hard seeing we've been on only one date, but somehow he doesn't seem to care. I told him I liked him and he still hasn't texted me or anything.
As I was sunk in my own thoughts the doorbell rang, making me rise from the couch. Nobody buzzed my door, making me wonder who's in front of my door. I make my way to the door, only to be met with one of the, if not the biggest hug someone has ever given me.
"Sophie, what are you doing here?" I ask as the two break apart from our hug we shared, the girl now leaning against my door frame. The girl looked, as always, gorgeous today, even though she was still wearing her Leicester tracksuit.
"Hayley called me, ranting about something with a boy. I don't know if it is the Reece guy or the Mason guy seeing me and Timo still forget everyone's names, or well I do, but from what I heard one of the two ditched you on a date." As the girl speaks she makes her way through the hallway, the two of us sitting on the couch as she's finished.
"Well then," I sigh as I walk to the kitchen to make some coffee for myself and some tea for Sophie. As I return after some minutes I hand her the tea as I sit down with my coffee, taking a sip before placing it on the table.
"We went on a date a week ago and everything was perfect Sophie, everything. He had laid out a picknick place on the beach whilst the sun was setting and he had truly thought everything through. The food, drinks, he even kept the conversation going for the whole date. It was awesome." I confessed, a smile plastered on my face as I think about the date we had. Everything came back. I could picture it, experiencing every feeling going along with it too. It made me realise how good this date truly was and how much effort Mason had truly put in it. It made me want to go back to that date to redo it all, but I couldn't.
"We then made our way to the restaurant who provided us with the food to pay. As we were there the waiter flirted a bit with me, resulting in him giving his number to me unasked, or to phrase it better, he gave his number along with the bill, the bill Mason took. He showed me the phone number and asked what was happening between me and the waiter. I was honest and told him that he shouldn't worry about those things. He then told me he wanted me to himself, something I didn't expect. He told me he was jealous whenever other men were looking or filtering with me, something which only occurred once Sophie, once." I sigh again as I take a large sip of my coffee.
"I then said that, even though we connect one different level and that there is no one else for me, my options still were open. Not fully in that way, I assured him I could stop seeing other people if he wanted to, but I also told him it's too early for basically anything. I can't fully rely on Mason, especially with the amount of girl he can choose from. He can walk out on me any second Sophie, something I'm not ready for. I told him he either could respect that and for him to continue dating me or to leave, something I did in the end when he didn't do or said anything." As I'm finished Sophie sits on the couch with an eyebrow raised, the girl shaking her head a bit as she reaches for her tea.
"You," she says as she's sat in the couch again "have sort of messed up."
"How?" I ask, not getting what the girl meant. In my opinion I haven't said anything hurtful to Mason, I just told him the truth, one he deserved to know. He descended to know not everything he desires to be his can be his. He needed to learn that he has to work for something he wants, because this time the things he wants won't be there without doing any effort.
"You don't tell someone you date that you're keeping your options open. He's trying Zoë. He knows where you come from, the differences you guys have, believe me, he knows. But I feel like he truly wants this, wants you. He wouldn't do this much effort for a date just to be dropped because he didn't act up when you wanted. I get that you wanted him to stand up, saying it was alright and for the two of you to wrap up this date in a good way, but let's be honest, if someone told you they were keeping their options open as you guys were dating you'd do the same as he did." As Sophie was trying to make her point across, I realised the words I told Mason might've been more harsh then I thought.
"So, what do I now?" I ask, hoping Sophie somehow has some advice for me. If someone knows how to handle the situation, it's her. The way the girl is cold when is needed, but warm hearted to the ones she loved. The way she, secretly, worries about you even when it isn't needed. She's the go to person for this.
"You pull up to his house and say sorry." She simply shrugs, finishing her mug of tea as she then stands up, me rising from the couch along with her.
"Now, I have to dip, but make sure to let me know how it went." The two of us share a good, firm hug before she's headed downstairs. As I think about her words I come to the conclusion that she has a valid point. It also makes me realise it has to be done rather sooner then later, hoping he hasn't moved on yet. I grab my coat and shoes, making my way downstairs after I'd put them on. I start my car when I'm downstairs, making my way to his house as my thoughts are all over the place. What if he doesn't want my apology? What if he never wants to speak to me again? What do I do if he thinks I'm an arse and someone he never wants to see again?
As I was thinking I pull up to his house, collecting all the confidence I have in me. My phone, however, shows a notification, one I wish I rather hadn't seen.
