Chapter 16 : Old Times

"Travis...

We used to be together"

"B-but how? But why? Why haven't you told me anything!?"

"I was...Testing you"

"Katelyn I'll let you know I am not some test monkey to play around with, why have you never told me we used to be together? And did we even break up for the right reasons?"

"We never even broke up in the first place"

"What?"

She placed her hand on his shoulder giving him a bitter smile

"Is this why you've avoided me? Because of what I probably did to you? Was I too much of a douche that I treated you wro-"

"It was all my fault"

"W-what?"

"We had an argument, I doubted my love for you because I thought the girl you were flirting with was someone you fell in love with. After you woke up in the hospital after finding out you had amnesia an idea immediately popped up in my head"

"And what idea was that?"

"I wanted to see if you would still love me, s-so I never told you that we used to be together"

"You should've told me Katelyn! You didn't have to suffer alone!"

"Katelyn I'm here for you,please...You don't have to suffer alone, I'm here... I'll always be here"

"I...I..."

"Me dating Evelyn was probably cherry on top was it?"

"Please Katelyn...Let me in...I'll never hurt you"

"I'm so sorry for never telling you this Travis"

"Does she know?"

"She knows, everyone knew of my plan and respected it"

"I can't believe it...Katelyn if we were still together you know I would never hurt you right?"

"I know...I've only realized it too late"

"What do you mean?"

"You love Evelyn remember?"

"Y-yeah but..."

"I-I can...g-give you a chance"

"T-travis...That's all I wanted to hear from you but I can't anymore..."

"I'm only hurting myself and I don't want too suffer anymore. I loved you for the longest time and you loved Evelyn, it's a fair game. I should've known you would love her"

"Katelyn please..."

She took a deep breath "I'm saying this with sincerity Travis, I just want the best for you two. I want the both of you to experience happiness without me"

"W-without you?"

She stood up and dusted herself "I'm moving to Canada"

"WHAT!?"

"I...Need to do some self reflection, doing it here with you, Evelyn, and the others just brings back way too many hurtful memories. I need to go to somewhere I can breathe"

"How long will you be away?"

"I don't know when I'll be back, but expect me to here for yours and Evelyn's wedding day" She said with a sad chuckle

Travis shook away the thought and asked her something "Can I just tell you something before you go?"

"Of course, what is it?"

"Even if I don't remember what happened to us in our past know that past, present, and future me will never leave you Katelyn. Ex-girlfriend or not, you will always be my bestfriend"

You couldn't even say those seven letters huh?

Stop hoping that he'll still love you Katelyn

You'll only hurt yourself

"No matter what happens to us, will we always stay friends?"

"Bestfriends to be exact"

She hugged him tightly as tears flowed from her eyes staining his signature green hoodie

"It's funny how I'm saying goodbye to you while seeing you in the clothes I first met you again with"

"I knew this hoodie was familiar!"

"Heh..."

"It's just so unfair Katelyn"

"U-unfair?"

"We haven't talked for 3 months and the first time I see you is when we have to say goodbye"

"Atleast this time I said goodbye"

"Y-you'll come back right?"

"I promise I'll come back"

"I'll be waiting for your return everyday"

"That's too much, even for you Travis. And plus, shouldn't you be saying these kinds of words to Evelyn?"

"She may be my girlfriend but you are my bestfriend, you were here for me when she wasn't. You understood me when no one else did, thank you for always being here for me"

I guess mission success huh?

"You know it's no problem really, it's what friends are for"

"I'll always be here for you Katelyn, remember that okay?"

"I always will"

As she started walking away she faced Travis for a final time

"H-hey Travis..."

"Yeah?"

"I love you"

He gently smiled at her and waved "I'll be waiting for your return"

She waved back and walked away heading to the car she rented and looked inside the trunk to see her light blue suitcase and sighed before entering her car to head to the airport with tears making her clothes wet

Travis waved at her as he dropped to the ground going back to the present

"It's been 3 years Katelyn, why aren't you back yet?

You told me you'd come back

Y-you promised"

Haven't you already learned? Promises were always meant to be broken
