"So Harry, I can't help but notice your accent, where are you from?" My mom asked as we sat down for dinner and began eating.
"London, originally, but my parents and I moved to Phoenix when I was six, for their job"
"That's really neat! Do you ever go back to London to visit?"
"Yeah, quite a bit actually. My grandparents and a few aunts and uncles live there, so I try to visit as often as I can. I have a few friends living there as well that I keep in touch with."
My eyebrows rose as he said that. I guess we just never talked about his life before he moved here, other than his friend that passed away from Phoenix. I was learning just as much as my parents were today.
"I see, so I assume you moved here for your parents work then, too?" My mom says.
"Yeah, they travel a lot so I'm usually home alone"
"Just like me!" I add in and playfully roll my eyes.
"Yeah about that, are you sure you don't want to come back with us? School hasn't started there yet either, and the high school is actually pretty nice, right in the city!" My mom says. I know my parents wish I came with them to New York, and I obviously miss them, but I love it here. And I actually enjoy the freedom.
"I'm sure you could still join the cheerleading squad there.. And a few of the guys on the team have kids that are your age, so you could easily make friends" dad adds in. I notice Harry nervously looking at me out of the corner of my eye.
"I'm staying" I say before I look at Harry. I see the nervousness leave his face after I reassure them.
"This is delicious, Mrs. Flynn" Harry politely says, probably hoping to change the subject.
"Thanks sweetie, and really, call me Claire!"
After dinner, which wasn't too bad, my mom and I started to clear the table before my dad asked if he could talk to Harry... Privately. There was a pit in my stomach the whole time I was loading the dishwasher. What does he need to talk to him about? I thought they already had their "talk?" I kept telling myself it was about football or something, but I have no idea..

Harry's POV
"Hey Harry, can we talk for a minute? Out on the deck?" Aubrey's father asked as we finished dinner.
Why did he want to talk to me again? What was he going to say? Hopefully he hasn't changed his mind about liking me, I thought things had gone well tonight.
As he slid the door to the deck shut, he made his way over to the railing and looked out to the beautiful view of the ocean. I slowly walked over and joined him, nervous for what he was going to say.
"I assume you noticed the tension in there when we were talking about Aubs moving back with us..." He finally said.
"Uhh, I suppose."
"I'm going to be honest, Claire and I wanted to come here to try and convince her to move back with us. After everything with Ethan, she's not been herself, and we just hate that we left her here alone. We talked about it with her this morning too."
"Oh..." Was all I could manage to say. They can't take her away from me? Would he do that to her? She doesn't want to go.
"She's my little girl, and I let my career take over my life.. I mean what parent leaves their child alone?" He seems to be angry at himself, but I have no idea what to say, so I just let him rant.
"Mine.." I blurt out.
"What?"
"My parents just leave me here, or wherever they make us move, while they go and travel the world. They don't care about me, but I know you and Mrs. Flynn care about Aubrey, even if you're not here. She always talks about how much she loves and misses you, but she never blames you or is angry that you're not here." I say, and I have no idea why. I don't want to get in the middle of their family issues, but I also can't stand by and let them take Aubrey with them.
"That means a lot to hear, you have no idea.." He says as he looks down. "And I'm sorry about your parents"
I stood there in awkward silence, why did he bring me out here to tell me this? Is he going to make her come with them?
"Well I guess I just wanted to tell you that I won't make her come back with us or try to convince her.. We just.. Well it's because of you. This morning at breakfast, I could tell that Aubrey was doing fine, and she wouldn't stop taking about how you helped her after Ethan or how great you are in general, I just met you but I really can't thank you enough for what you've done." He says like he's read my mind. I let out the breath I didn't know I was holding in.
"She's helped me more than I've helped her to be honest"
"Well, I'm glad she met you. And look, you are welcome to stay here whenever you want. I'm assuming it may get lonely with out your parents, and I know Aubrey hates being home alone." He placed his arm on my shoulder. "In a guest room of course!" We both chuckled.
"Thanks, I appreciate it" I smile. Why was I so nervous? Thankfully Austin isn't taking Aubrey with them back to New York. I always imagined him as some hard ass football player, but thankfully Aubrey was right when she said he was nothing like that. I find myself pinching my arm to make sure this is real. This is honestly a dream to be dating someone so perfect, and I'm relieved that her family is just as great as her.
"Well I guess we should go inside, Claire made her famous apple pie" Austin smiled before walking back inside and I follow.
"So what was that about?" Aubrey whispers in my ear while her dad heads to the kitchen. "What did he say"
"That he thinks your a horrible daughter and wants to keep you here so he doesn't have to deal with you" I smile and she playfully hits me.
"Really! Harry what did he say?!"
"He said that him and your mum came to convince you to come back to New York with them"
"What?" Her mouth falls open. "That's why they brought it up again during dinner.." Her face turned white before I placed my hand on her soft cheek.
"But they changed their mind, I guess you gave me a great review this morning" I wink.
"Are you serious? It's because of you?"
"Ouch" I smile.
"You know what I mean!"
"He said that he feels comfortable leaving you here because I'm here I guess"
.
"You really are great!" she says before kissing me.
