"Loki, come hang out with us!" I called out, my voice echoing through the grand halls as I waved energetically at the Prince, who always seemed to keep his distance when I was with Thor.
"Lady Meredith, leave him be. He's no fun," Thor insisted, his grip on my arm firm as he pulled me away from Loki. I glanced back, catching a glimpse of Loki's cool, distant expression before turning my attention back to Thor.
I am the second oldest Princess of Alfheim and the designated playmate to the two Asgardian Princes, Loki and Thor. Our bond was forged from birth, nurtured by countless playdates arranged by my mother and Queen Frigga. My mother had always believed in the power of magic, and when she discovered I had inherited it, she turned to her oldest friend, Queen Frigga, to help me learn control.
As a light elf, I possess extraordinary physical abilities—strength, speed, stamina, durability, agility, and reflexes that surpass those of many Asgardians. But it was my Asgardian heritage that gifted me with magic, a rarity among my kind. My mother often spoke of her grandmother, who wielded magic with grace, and she believed that I had inherited that same gift.
My mother, an Asgardian duchess, had married one of the five princes of Alfheim. He eventually overthrew his siblings to seize the throne—a testament to his ambition and cunning. That's the man I call Father—a king who sees us, his family, as mere pieces on his chessboard. But despite his ruthless nature, he loves us in his own way. I have an older brother, Valin, who mirrors our father's bravery and leadership, and younger twin sisters, Freya and Astrid, who, though still young, have a mischievous streak that keeps me on my toes. I love them, even when they drive me mad.
"Why doesn't Loki join us?" I asked, my curiosity piqued by the way Loki seemed to retreat whenever Thor was around. When it was just the two of us, when we're practicing magic together, he is different—more open, more... real.
Loki and I had a complicated relationship. When I first started visiting Asgard, he barely acknowledged my presence, treating me as little more than an annoyance. His silence was soon replaced by tricks—silly, harmless pranks that were more annoying than anything else. But gradually, as the years passed, the tricks stopped, and he began to speak to me, though only when Thor wasn't around. Perhaps it was because he was growing up—at 1,069 years old, he was beginning to step into adulthood by Asgardian standards.
"He's just quiet. I thought you'd have figured that out by now," Thor laughed, finally releasing my wrist as we reached the training ground. His eyes gleamed with anticipation as he picked up his sword, the familiar weight settling comfortably in his hand. "Ready?"
"Are you sure about this? We got in trouble last time," I reminded him, eyeing the sword warily. I was skilled in archery, a hallmark of my people, but swordplay was more Thor's domain.
"Last time we skipped a meeting with Odin. We'll be fine... unless you're scared," Thor teased, a mischievous grin tugging at his lips. He knew exactly how to push my buttons, and I could never resist a challenge.
"I'm not scared." I grabbed a sword, matching his grin with one of my own. "How about this—whoever wins gets the loser's dessert tonight?" Thor's love for sweets was well-known, and I knew it would motivate him.
"There's unlimited dessert, Lady Meredith. How is that a win?" Thor's voice was filled with humor, though I could see the glint of competitive spirit in his eyes.
"Fine. Whoever loses can't touch anything sweet for the rest of the day."
Thor's stance shifted, his muscles tensing as he prepared for the duel. "Alright then. Prepare for a dull evening, Lady Meredith."
..."Meredith, what happened?" Frigga's concerned voice greeted me as I entered the practice room, where she and Loki were waiting.
"Sorry for being late, Frigga. I was sparring with Thor," I explained, a triumphant smile playing on my lips as I glanced at Loki. "I won." His lips curled into a rare smile, one that made my heart skip a beat.
