Miranda's POV
"So what's the plan? Am I meant to travel this dark space until the end of time. Or am I going to be reborn?" I ask.
"That is something the both of you will have to figure out." Skull said.
"Both of you?" He moved back and Meredith appeared on the other side of Red Skull. "Hello Meredith." I waved. She looked confused. "I am Miranda." I walked closer to her.
"Hello." She said. "I'm confused why I am here."
"When you were in Odins weapons vault you were stabbed by a Frost Giant. At the same time I was crushed my a transport machine from Midgard.... Stop me if I'm wrong." I told Red Skull and he nodded. "We were both on the brink of death so our souls came here. But when we were revived we went back into the wrong person. You went into me and I went into you." I looked at Red Skull. He nodded.
"Miranda is correct. Your souls have been trying to get back into the right body for years but Miranda had a witch trap her mind into Merediths body. The mind and soul are strongly connected which is the reason it worked." Meredith and I nod. But she still looked confused.
"Confused again?" She looked to me and nodded. "In your life I went down to Midgard and found a woman who has the power to manipulate minds. She was like a harness to keep mine in your body." Meredith nodded.
"I think I understand better." She said. "So how is this going to work? Are we going back into our own bodies." Meredith asked. I frowned. "Is that wrong?" She asked me. I smiled.
"Nope. It's your body." I smiled.
"How long were you using my body?"
"Around 7 years." Her eyes widen. "Sorry. I would have given your body back sooner but I had to save some people." She nodded. I looked at Red Skull. "Are we going back like she said?" He nods.
"I am meant to fix what has been mistaken." He looks at me. "Unless you wish to make a deal." I squint my eyes.
"A deal with a villain? Doesn't sound safe." He grins. "What is it" I sigh.
"I have grown rather tired of my job. I use to want to be the most powerful man. Now that I am, it is boring."
"And?" I ask. Meredith stares at him.
"I will send you wherever you want to go if you take my place when you die." He offers
"What if where I want to go already has someone claim." Meredith and I look at each other.
"Can you put souls into another body?" She asks. Red Skull nods. "If I choose to go into another host but in the same place may I choose?"
"Meredith what are you doing?" I ask her. "You still have your body, just go back to that." She shakes her head.
"To much responsibility. I have always felt trapped my whole life. IF I have a choice then I don't want to go back to being Princess Meredith. I want to be a normal girl with freedom." She says. I look at Red Skull
"Can you give her my memories from the time in my world?" He nods. Merediths eyes roll to the back of her head and she falls limp into my arms. "A little warning would be nice." I scoffed. Meredith then gasped and opened her eyes. "How you feeling?" She chuckles.
"Good. You have a weird life." I laugh.
"Yea. You could say that." I help her stand up. "Do you like it? I mean you would have to get use to Midgard items but with my memories it won't be hard."
"You think I should take your body." I nod.
"Only if you want. But I understand if you don't. I am sure you saw that we live on different dimensions so the people you grew up with won't be there in the same way. They will be strangers." She contemplates what I have said. "I understand if you don't want to. I don't have the wealthiest life with a big family. If you go you will have to work. I am also mortal." She thinks again.
"But I won't be trapped. And Alex seems like a nice girl. And I am sure with my knowledge I can find a nice place to work. Maybe I can go to..... college." She smiles at me. "My family here was never the kindest, I was only a pawn for power. My mother, Thor, Frigga and Loki were the only family I had. And I have broken the ties with Loki I am sure. And being a mortal doesn't seem bad, I have already lived for 1,080 years." I looked to Red Skull.
"What do you say about sending us back, Merediths soul in my body and my soul in Merediths body.... Permanently." I asked
"That is an easy fix." He sighs. "I guess I will be stuck here longer than I thought." I stand up.
"I'm sure you can find someone you can trust to take over. I mean it can't be that hard with everyone passing through." I smile.
"They don't have what it takes. They will go mad sooner than I will. You are a strong woman Miranda." I smile.
"How about this. If I die offer me this job again and I'll think about it." He nods. I turn to Meredith. "It was nice meeting you. I'm sorry this happened."
"It's fine. I'm going to start a new life now... sort of." She smiled. "You better treat my people right. Visit my mother once and a while. Make sure she knows you are ok." I nod
"Thank you." I hug her. "You don't know how much of a gift this is." I turn to Red Skull. "So... how is this done? Some satanic ritual." I joke. He rolls his eyes.
"No I will simple send you back." I nod.
"Oh! Maybe I can visit you. To make you less bored. You are still on Vormer right?"
"Yes. Actually right now your friends are arriving to exchange the stone for Gamora." I nod.
"You better give her back. I quote you: A soul for a soul." I smile.
"Of course I will follow my own words. Now step away from each other so I can send you back." Meredith and I step away from each other. "Close your eyes." We close my eyes.
It felt like the wind was sucked out of me and drifted in the air until it landed into something else. But this something else felt heavy, like a boulder. A stone I couldn't move, but it wasn't a boulder. It was my body, unconscious. I could feel my legs, abdomen, arm, chest rising and falling, my hair tickling my ears. Something surrounding my hands.
