Chapter 2: Valerie

Song of chapter: Wake Me Up When September Ends by Green Day

"So, did you enjoy yourself yesterday at the party?" Emma asked me, putting her backpack away in her locker. Emma and I have been friends since sixth-grade, but when I moved we lost touch. I thought she had forgotten about me. We now happen to be next door neighbors.

"Yeah, it was a lot of fun," I say

"What did you and Logan do while Michael and I left?" she smirked while closing her locker door.

"We just talked really. We got to know each other a little. Well, he got to know me a little bit. He is very. . . curious," I smile. Emma smiles. She nods her head in agreement.

"What is your first class?" she asks. I look through my folder of papers until I found my schedule.

"It says Chemistry Four Honors with Mrs. White."

"Oh, I don't have her until fifth period, but Michael is in there I think. I'll walk you there. It's not too far from here," Emma links my arm with hers.

While walking to class with Emma, she showed me where some of my other classes where. We even have Calculus and Art together. Once we got to my class, I felt the floor vibrate. I think that's the loudest thing I have felt vibrate. Besides my mom's music in the car for us. Emma sprang up and hurried off to her class. It was kind of funny to see her scurry off like that. I look around the class with only three other students, and I find a place to sit. I sit in the first row so I can read the teachers lips when she talks. I am hoping my mother told all of my teachers I am deaf. I don't want to keep interrupting them when they turn around and start talking, but I can't hear them. I wish there was a deaf school near by and not 300 miles from where I live.

The next thing I know, a swarm of people come through the door. I see Michael and wave towards him! He sees me and smiles. He comes near my desk with his arms wide open. I take that que and stand up with my arms open. We embrace in a hug. He pulls away, holding my shoulders. "I didn't know had first period together!" he exclaims.

"I didn't either! Emma did say she thought we had class together. She was right!" I giggled. He smiles and goes to his seat behind me. More people come in the class room. The next thing I know, Logan comes in the room. He was talking to some guy I can tell from the party last night. The guy goes off and Logan's eyes land on me. His face brightens up. He quickly walks to the table I was at and sits next to me.

"Hey, what a surprise! First period together!" he says. I giggle.

"There has been full of surprises today!" I say. He smirks.

Suddenly a lady with brown hair that was in a bun and a pencil skirt walks in. She's young. "Hello class! We have a surprise today! We have a new student. Miss Acerman will you stand up please?" Oh, man. I slowly stand up and wave behind me. I look back at her. "Why don't you tell a little bit about yourself?" I turn around.

"Um, I'm Valerie Acerman. I'm seventeen years old and I recently moved here from Atlanta, Georgia," I say.

"What's wrong with your voice?" I saw someone say.
