Ever Sunday night I spend the night at Michael's. It's been a tradition since the third grade. We always play video games and talk about random stuff. Today was a little different. Michael got grounded from his TV in his room, so no video games today. We've been reading screen plays and making fun of them. It's been great.

We finished reading a scene from Shrek the Musical. "That was great! The accent you used from Shrek, amazing!" I said laughing.

"I can do the best Shrek voice! No one can beat it," he chuckled.

"That's very true, man," I agree.

"Heck yeah!" he cheers. We start laughing again. "Do you want something to eat, bro? It's like 10:15 already."

"Yeah, sure. Anything is good to me. I'm starving," I say.

We go downstairs to find some food. I just grab a bowl of Fruit Loops and start eating. I'm not a big eater when it comes to late dinner. I just find random food and eat it. "So, how are you and Valerie?" Michael wiggled his eyebrows. I roll my eyes and smirk.

"We are acually going on a date. She just randomly asked which was weird. But, we are going to talk about out it later tomorrow. I'm nervous, and I don't even know what day we are going to go out on," I explained. It's true. I have never felt this way before. I've gone out with a bunch of girls and had a great time, but this feeling is different. I'm nervous if I mess anything up. I usually don't, so I don't think I need to worry about anything. I smile, thinking about what might happen on our date.

"Way to go man! You like her right?" he asks.

My heart jumps. "I don't know what I feel. I know that my heart goes faster when she is around. When she laughs, it makes butterflies flutter in my stomach. When she smiles, I smile too," I say. A picture of her smiling comes into my mind. I smile and feel my cheeks blushing.

"You so like her, dude," he says biting into a Cheeto chip.

"How can you tell?" I ask. He chuckles.

"The way you talk about her, and at school the way you look at her. It's the way I look and talk about Emma. Dude, just ask her to be your girlfriend. You guys would be really cute together."

"But don't you think we would be struggling a lot? Deaf and a hearing couple. Doesn't it usually not work out?" I ask.

"It could. If you really like her, you would go for it and ask her out. If you really like her, you would take the chance to go through thoes stuggles," he explains. I nod my head in agreement.

"You're right man. I should do it. I'll take your advice," I say. He smiles and gives me a thumbs up. I smile back, thinking how I have a great friend.

I am jolted awake from my phone ringing. I see that it was my mom. I answer it. "Hey, mom. How come your calling me at two in the morning?" I ask grogglily from not talking for four hours.

"You need to come home sweetie," she says. I'm wide awake from the news.

"What happened? Are you okay? Is the baby okay?" I say more awake now.

"I'm fine. The baby is fine. ," she says.

"Don't tell me it's Jacob. Mom, please don't tell me something is wrong with Jacob," I plead.

"It's your father," she cries. I feel my heart drop. Tears are forming into my eyes. I see Michael sit up from his bed. I stand up off of the floor that I was lying on. He looks at me confused.

"Where's my dad, mom?" I ask. She doesn't answer for a while.

"He got hit by a drunk driver, and is in a coma. He is in the hospital right now. He isn't looking too good. I'm so sorry, Logan," she says.

"I'll be right there," I say and hang up.

"What's wrong, Logan?" Michael asks me. A tear leaves my eye. I wipe it away quickly before he could see it.

"I have to go home, Mike. My dad is in the hospital. I don't know if I'm going to school today. Tell Valerie, I'm sorry, but I'll text her later tonight. I have to go," I say grabing all my stuff, my voice is all shakey. I'm scared I'm going to lose my dad.

I'm terrifed.
