Just a Moment- a Cameron Boyce fanfic.

Chapter 1

Halley and I were hanging out watching TV a week before school was supposed to end. I was always close with her. She was my sanity when things got crazy with Lily and Jen. She was good at fixing me.

"Girls", my mom called. "Your dad and I have news."

That phrase always got me nervous. Apparently it does the same for Halley. I could feel her tense up next to me as we watched our parents sit across from us.

"Your father and I have been talking", she said, glancing over at him. "We think that we are ready for life with children again."

My stomach plummeted. Replacing Lily and Jen? Never. 

"This time", she added. "it's going to be a little different though,"

What other things were there to do? Oh wait...

"We're adopting."

Bingo.

"A 3 year old girl from LA", said my dad. "We're spending the summer down there to get to know her."

"The whole summer?!", my sister asked.

"Yes", my mom said. "We leave in 2 days."

"What about finals?", I asked. Leave it to me to me to worry about school.

"You've both been exempt from all exams", my father answered.

"What's the girl's name?", my sister asked quietly. She was also still sensitive about what happened to Lily and Jen. 

"Penelope", my mom answered. "She's beautiful. You'll both love her. And she's only 2 years older than Mia. Nothing we can't handle."

That was true. After Lily and Jen, we could handle anything as a family.

"The only thing is that your dad and I will have a lot to do when we get down there and there won't be enough time to watch Mia all the time."

I could tell where my mom was going with this...

"You girls will have to take turns watching her."

There it is.

"Not all the time of course", my mom added. "Just sometimes."

I didn't say a word. I didn't have much to lose anyway. Why not spend a summer in LA?
