The Invasion

I was the last to wake up. Today we would invade the Fire Nation. Toph was sitting comfortably on a rock, Sokka is looking over his maps and plans for the billionth time, Aang and Katara seemed to be in a conversation. It would look like a regular day travelling with the team.

"Oh no" Katara suddenly says, I shift my attention towards her "Sokka, do you think the fog will interfere with the invasion plan?"

Sokka stands up and follows her gaze to the thick fog coming up near the shore line. "No" he replies, looking hopeful "That is the invasion"

We all climb down to meet everyone, and before long everyone reunites with old friends and family. Haru, and earth bender Katara and the team helped free from some Fire Nation. Toph's former earth bending competitors. Teo and his father who helped Sokka make invention when the team went to an air temple. Duke and Pipsqueak, two former freedom fighters, I instantly thought of jet but I knew it was best not to bring him up. And some water benders from the swamp lands. And of course, Bato and Hakoda, who give me a warm greeting.

"Naoki, nice to see you again" Hakoda says, giving me a warm smile.

"Nice to see you as well, I can also see you have..." I look to the swamp land water benders who are picking at each others ears. "Recruits"

"Yes, Sokka had the idea to get everyone, we need as much people as we can get for this invasion." Hakoda says, tilting his head slightly at the swamp water benders. "I would also like to thank you for joining this side of the war, it's not easy going against your entire Nation, even if it is the Fire Nation"

"Well, I never really liked the Fire Nation in the first place" I shrug, as I look back over to Aang. "Besides. Aang and everyone else were kind enough to let a Fire Bender join their team, something I'll be thankful for forever"

"Hey!" Sokka calls out from his spot to me and his father. "I'm gathering everyone for a briefing of the plan!"

After Sokka's briefing -which had to be taken over by Hakoda- everyone starts to go into preparation mode.

I settle by the shore line, wrapping clothes around my arms to prevent some scrapes getting on them. I had some battle armor on, the only thing was, was that it was Fire Nation armor. The deep colours of red overlapping one another.

We start to prepare the boats to leave, but we can't find Sokka, not a moment later Aang comes to the ship with him. The calm before the battle was almost unbearable. Thankfully, Sokka's submarine plans worked out perfectly, to everyone's relief. We managed to cross the Great Gates of Azulon without being spotted.

Eventually, the submarines had to come up for air. At that time, Aang had to part ways.

Me, Katara, Toph and Sokka join Aang on the surface as everyone stretches. I have never been in a battle like this before, I'm sure thee rest of the team hasn't either. Aang and I were the closet ones. With Aang's past lives and me being in the Fire Nation. Then again, the northern water tribe battle happened as well.

"So, this is it, huh?" Aang asks looking around at everyone.

Sokka places a hand on Aang's shoulder. "are you ready to face the Fire Lord?"

"I'm ready" Aang nod.

Sokka brings Aang into a hug, everyone else joins in. I was happy they let me in as well.

"I hope you kick some serious Fire Lord butt, Twinkle Toes" Toph adds, her sassy comment makes me smile.

"Everyone listen up! The next time we resurface, it'll be on the beaches. So, stay alert! And fight smart. Now break time's over, back in the subs!" Hakoda suddenly announces.

I go back to Appa, I was going to ride with him and Katara while Aang was away. I waited for Katara as I patted Appa on this nose, his battle armor making it a bit hard.

"You ready buddy?" I ask as he gives out a soft roar. "yeah, your right. Lets kick ass out there"

Katara suddenly jumps down near me and I get out of the way so she can water bend. Katara would have went alone, but since she was riding with Appa and he would be the first one to get out of the water, Fire Nation soldiers would attack him first, so with me there is a less of a chance someone would get hurt.

Once Appa and the submarines land on the beach, I allow myself to move up to the front to block Fire attacks. I also use my fire bender to make the Fire Nation soldiers back off or fall to the ground. Beside me the earth benders use rocks to take out the soldiers.

The swamp people use water bending and attack with all they have, holding up the back line. I use my fire bending to make the watch towers go down and I do it all the front line. When you fought beside Azula, Mei and Tylee in training, you got skills. I had the flexibly of Tylee, the accuracy of Mei and the power like Azula, but I couldn't summon blue fire or lightening...yet.

With Fire bending, a lot of bender just attack and don't care what they hit. I make accurate hits and also get my target if they don't move too much.

At some point in the battle, Hakoda gets injured and Sokka takes his place to lead. With the Fire Nation soldiers starting to die down, it seems like we might actually win -until Aang joins the group again, before the eclipse even starts.

"Please tell me you're here because the Fire Lord actually turned out to be a big wuss and you didn't need to eclipse to take him down"

"He wasn't home" Aang sighs. He kneels down and the rest of us do the same. "No one was. The entire palace city is abandoned"

"They knew," Sokka says, looking down.

"It's over" Aang chokes "The Fire Lord is probably long-gone, far away on some remote island where he'll be safe during the eclipse"

"No" I say, shaking Aang "He wouldn't go far. He would have some secret bunker somewhere. Somewhere he could go and be safe during the siege, but still be close enough to lead his Nation"

"If its an underground secret bunker we're looking for" Toph adds "I'm just the girl to find it"

Sokka pulls out a small device "The mechanist gave me this timing device. It looks like we have about 10 minutes until the full eclipse. 10 minutes to find the Fire Lord"

"we can still do this. We can still win the day!" Aang announces, bouncing up.

"Wait!" Katara exclaims "If they knew we were coming it could all be a trap. Maybe we should use the time we have left to make sure we all out of here safely."

"Or maybe that's exactly what the Fire Nation wants. Everyone came here willing to risk their life, to risk everything" Sokka counters.

"They don't have to, though" Katara argues with her brother. "I say we get out safely and come up with a new plan. We can train more. We can find another time"

"There won't be another time" Sokka insists

"Enough!" Toph interrupts "You too knuckle heads are wasting out time. We need to make a decision now"

"What do you think? You're the one who has to face the Fire Lord. Whatever you decide, I'm with you" Katara says, dropping the argument with her brother.

"We all are" Sokka adds "So what do you say?"

"I've gotta try"
