KAI

I crouched down as Seth continued typing on his computer. It was the day after the gala, and I had never been more frustrated.

Brutal attacked me and got away. Someone wanted me dead badly to get a vigilante like her to get me killed. Or maybe, she held a grudge against me, being the owner of Siege and all others.

And second, the woman was still on my mind. Dagon's unknown daughter. I first thought of the possibility that maybe she was Brutal after her brief disappearance and what I've seen her do at the diner.

But when we went back inside, she was still there and looked just as she had before. Beautiful and unbothered. And extremely difficult to catch.

"Here she is." Seth announced.

The screen showed a candid picture of her walking on the pavement with a simple leather coat on and sunglasses. Her hair was tied into a high ponytail and she had a phone to her ear, clearly deep in conversation to even notice someone had taken a picture of her.

"Verena Dagon." I read out loud, testing her name on my lips. It might've been the sweetest thing it had ever tasted.

"Yeah. She's a law student at the ANU College of Law. Twenty-two years old. And," He clicked on the next page button. "That's it. That's all they have on her."

"Really? That's all?" I asked.

He sighed and waved his hand in frustration. "Yeah, that's all. I guess we can't expect much given that we didn't even know Dagon had a daughter." He closed his laptop and looked at me. "Just be thankful she's in our database."

She was like a ghost. How Dagon had kept her a secret for so long, I did not know. All I knew was that she could easily incapacitate men twice her size and she knows how to get anyone easily addicted to her.

Verena was fatal. And that was exactly what we needed.

"You ever thought about getting a fifth member?" I asked out loud.

Seth turned in his seat and raised a concerned eyebrow. "Why? What are you thinking?"

I walked out of the room and headed down the stairs. What better than to recruit her? She was amazing, and that was all I needed to know to want her.

Want her on the team, of course. And with Siege. If she were to join us, it would help us out a lot, given that units in Siege were actually required to have five members minimum.

But I bypassed that rule when I chose only three people. I couldn't get myself to choose a fifth member because I didn't want to limit my choices.

And now, I was certain that she would make the perfect addition to the team.

"Jesus, Kai slow down!" Seth shouted through the cavernous living room, getting Yuna and Roman's attention from the kitchen.

Yuna ran out. "What's going on?"

"Kai's whipped, that's what." He descended the stairs and crossed his arms at me.

I scoffed at Seth and turned to Yuna that also had her arms crossed and her foot tapping on the marbled floor. "No, I'm not. I just think that Dagon's daughter would be excellent for our team."
