KAI
6 years ago"Dude, I'm fucking over this shit. Once I graduate, I'm leaving the country and never looking back."
One of my companions, Harris, always whined about his 5-story mansion and thousand dollar weekly allowance no matter the circumstance.
Tonight, he was complaining about his father. He was a wealthy businessman based in Germany, and he was also a man that loved to spoil his children if it weren't already obvious. Despite this, Harris refused to pay him back any respect and always acted out in school. His grades flunked, his performance was absolute shit, and everyone didn't know whether to hate him for his bullshit or love him for his status and money.
I didn't like him, but Reid was friends with him, which meant I had to be friendly as well. He already knew what I thought of Harris—pathetic, bratty, and stupid. In reply to that, he just told me to try and understand him, to which I said was something I'd rather not attempt to do.
Which is why he wasn't my friend. I often referred to him as my companion in my mind, similar to that of a dog. It was fitting for him, really.
"Where do you plan on going?" Reid sipped his liquor and rested against the foot of his own bed. We were on his carpeted floor, downing a bottle of Macallan. Harris brought it with him, saying it was his own, but I knew that a thousand dollar weekly allowance was too tempting for him to save up more than half a million dollars to buy such a rare drink.
The moment he brought it out, Reid and I shared a look. It was definitely his father's.
Reid was hesitant to drink it at first, given that Harris definitely did not his father's consent, but I couldn't care any less. We had a few bottles at home, and it wasn't so bad. I didn't drink much because other than the fact that we weren't exactly legal yet, I had better things to do than to get myself drunk.
When he noticed my apathy, he didn't seem too scared to drink then. The jury's still out on whether or not I was a good influence.
"I don't fucking know. Rome, probably. Or someplace I've never been like Australia, or Greenland. Someplace not too cold." Harris downed his glass and began refilling his drink for the fourth time. The bottle was already half-empty thanks to him.
"Greenland is full of ice. You might want to take it off your list if you don't want to freeze." I leaned against the console table a few feet away from Reid. Next to him, Harris glowered at me.
"No one asked, Deimos." The corner of my lip lifted at his retort. He was adamant on refuting all of my corrections and lessons because he knew I was always the smartest person in the room. To people like him, insults like that protected himself from my belittlements.
"Ladies," Reid jested. "Don't fight. It's two in the morning and the whole house is asleep."
Harris shook his head in annoyance. "Your parents aren't even home."
"Yes, but my grandmother is. Keep it down." Some time two years ago, Reid told me that his grandmother from Italy moved in. She was apparently sick and his mother wanted to take care of her herself. So, she moved in and Reid banned us from ever raising our voices or nearing her room on the third floor.
I didn't care much to pry. Other than the fact that I only ever reached the second floor since Reid's room was there, I had no intention to see his sickly grandmother. My father would probably force me to check if he knew, but I wasn't him.
