KAI

Seth's back hit the wall with a loud thud. He landed on his back, his teeth grinding as he pushed himself up and stood once more back to a fighting stance.

"You know you can't beat me," I goaded, my whole body throbbing from the few punches he landed earlier.

He cracked his knuckles and walked to where I stood at the center of the room. "I know, but you deserve a good beating."

Seth lunged for me and punched me in the side of my jaw. I staggered back and held my jaw in pain. What should've been a wail of pain came out as a laugh instead, leaving him irritated.

"You're sick for laughing at a time like this."

I looked at him and spat out the blood inside my mouth. "I'm pretty sure we have already established that."

He rolled his eyes and walked off, heading to the first aid locker. I slumped down on the cold floor of the training room and closed my eyes.

I heard the bag tossed to my side with a sigh. "There. Patch yourself up."

"Not even going to do it for me, brother?"

I opened my eyes to see him sit beside me while shaking his head. He opened his own medical bag and started fishing for the equipment he needed, "No. I'm not your nurse."

With a constrained laugh, I started tending to my wounds. There were a few cuts and bruises here and there, nothing worth crying over. I've collected enough scars on my body for my hands to absently begin working.

"You've got it all out of your system now?" I asked him once he finished.

He sighed and stood up, extending his hand to me after which I took reluctantly. "With you? Never."

"Then you shouldn't have stopped beating the shit out of me."

"I need rest too, you know. You beat the shit out of me as well."

I hummed my agreement as I pressed the elevator button. The chime disrupted the silence and the doors opened, the both of us filing in.

Seth leaned his head body against the corner, his movements a clear evidence of his exhaustion. I saw a look of confusion on his face in the reflection before it quickly passed and he sighed. "Kai?"

"Hmm?" I hummed with a bored look.

"I heard Lucien came over," he murmured, which I rolled my eyes at. "Minnie told me." Of course, she did. My secretary was good at what she did, but apparently she didn't include in her resume that her fucking mouth never stops blabbing on about everything to my friends. It's
good enough that she drew the line with other agents, but it still annoyed me.

"And what about him?"

He pushed himself off when the doors opened once more and shrugged. "Was that why you wanted to spar today? Because he chastised you on some report or because you got some numbers wrong?"

It took me a few seconds to realize that he was joking which, in my defense, was a rare occurence. "Now that's just rude," I chuckled. We aimlessly walked to where my car was parked in the corner of the parking lot. I opened the door to the driver's seat and Seth opted for the passenger seat next to mine.
