VERENA

"Are you kidding?" I asked rhetorically. I tried rifling through whatever knowledge I had picked up on him from the past few years.

Malachi Deimos. The perfect son, brother, and hero. To everyone, he was the genius playboy and the son of Lucien Deimos.

To me, he was the biggest asshole and traitor in the world.

"No. He made an attempt on your mother's life to try and get to me. If you can't do it for me, do it for our family. Don't make me find someone else." He sternly answered.

What the hell? He tried to kill my mother? "How do you know he tried killing mom?"

Irene pressed her ear closer to the phone while Jasper kept his eyes glued on the television where Kai ignored the paparazzi and got in his car.

"We've been eyeing a client for weeks now and his company's our only competitor. He threatened me just last week after I invited him into my office, then your mother was taken not too long after."

I sighed and looked back at the television screen that was now showing his achievements and the milestones he had attained from only the past year.
That asshole.

"Fine. Call off whatever SWAT team you have ready. He's mine."

I had just finished carving the letter B on the cement wall with my dagger when Jasper checked the scope of the bolt-action sniper rifle and handed it to me. We were on top of an abandoned building that directly faced a raucous nightclub with people streaming from within.

I positioned myself in a comfortable manner and stationed the sniper on the edge while Jasper scouted the area for the target with binoculars and a laptop that showed the implanted tracker he had planted a few days ago on the target's car.

"So, who's Kai Deimos?" He asked, the laughter and shouting from the street below in the background.

I shifted in my position as a car approached the club. "He's all over the news. Ask Google."

Two women got out of the car and walked towards a few people in line. Not our target.

"Not that," Jasper closed his laptop and stashed it away as he sat next to me with his binoculars, shoulders resting on the edge of the wall. "I mean who is he to you?"

I removed myself from the gun's scope to look at him. "He's no one to me."

"Is he though?"

I rolled my eyes at him and went back into position as another car drove by and dropped off two men. One was wearing a blue suit, the other white. That's him.

The man in white was none other than The Pacifier. Shit name, I know. I would rather die than be called something to placate infants, but hey, wish granted; he's dying tonight.

The Pacifier smiled at a few patrons and talked to the bouncer while his companion rushed into the club. I transferred my finger from the side to the trigger as I moved the gun to narrow it down to the man's head that bobbed.

"What did the big bad Pacifier do anyway?" Jasper asked next to me.

"A long list that would make even a man like you wet your pants." I whispered.
