Meghan's POV:
"It feels so good to be home." I said as we walked through the door and tossed our bags onto the ground.

"That plane ride was exhausting. Next time we are driving." Jack commented.

For part of my summer I went to Omaha with the boys after my trip to Australia with the band. One month in each place and in two days I go back to school for senior year.

For the whole summer I've kept quiet about how things ended with Connor and every time Luke tried asking id him it was mutual and that he liked the girl he was cheating on me with more.

Although I never got to call Connor out for cheating, he didn't matter to me anymore. He was somewhere in Indiana and I have no doubt he won't be returning to LA any time soon.

The first thing I did as the boys slumped upstairs to put stuff away was check our voicemails. There were a few from school regarding scheduling and class syllabi, but I took care of that while in Omaha. The last couple were from Connor's mom.

One message was her crying and sobbing our different words that I couldn't make out and the another was her saying to call her back. The last message was from a week ago.

"Hi Meghan, this is Connor's mom. Please disregard the other two messages but if you haven't heard already, Connor passed away two weeks ago. He was driving down the highway on his way to school and he crashed into another car and died on impact. There is going to be a funeral on August third at three to seven. If you can please come." When the message ended I realized today was the third. I ran upstairs and let the boys know what happened before calling Luke and proceeding to getting ready.

"Wait what happened?" Luke asked me." And it's kind of short notice for her to call you, you just got off a plane."

"She called the house a week ago and left the message but i just heard it. She explained it to be him driving down the highway and died on impact from hitting another car or another car hitting him." I explained." Regardless I'm going."

"He was an ass to you though."

"That's doesn't mean he deserved to die or that I shouldn't pay my respects." I said before hanging up.

I told the boys where I was going before heading out. When I arrived, there were people I recognized from school here standing outside talking. Some of them were football plays and others were cheerleaders. When I came up to them they each gave me a hug and asked how I was doing but I explained that we broke up before summer and we hadn't talked since then. Most people didn't know that and before things go one this school year, I had to clear the air.

I went inside and went straight to his mother and gave her a hug. I told her and her other son Camden that I was sorry for their loss before making my way over to the shrine with his ashes and lit candles. Kids from school continued coming in and going but I stayed the whole time. I talked with his friends and we got together to share one thing we loved about him. I went around to different people and comforted them because in times like this it felt like a duty to be everyone's rock.

"Thank you for coming. I know you two didn't have a perfect relationship but I thought it would be the right thing to do to invite you." His mom told me.

"I appreciate it. He was a good guy and didn't deserve to die." I told her." I wanted to leave something with you though since it was the last thing he gave me but I think you should have it."

"Oh sweetie, don't be ridic-" I pulled Molly out of my bag and handed her to Connor's mom." What an adorable kitten."

"He gave her to me or Christmas but I think you should have it. I know most of his stuff was wrecked in the car accident and you don't have a lot to remember him by." I told her. She wept for a moment for hugging me graciously.

After the funeral needed I said goodbye to his family and texted Luke that I was heading over to his place. When I got there, he opened the door as I walked up.

"How was it?" He asked after he gave me a kiss and hugged me.

"It was depressing; losing people is never fun and even if he was a dick, I still feel bad for him and his family. No nineteen year old should die that early no matter who they were. I just hope his mom is going to be okay." I replied.

"I was talking about Omaha." Luke chuckled as we went inside.

"Oh, it was fun. I love their families but we mostly went out to parties with their high school friends and went out to eat." I said." Nebraska is such a beautiful state."

"I bet. Now besides saying hi after being gone a month, what brings you over?" He asked.

"I just wanted to see you. After this afternoon I could use the company." I answered." Tell me about the rest of your trip."

"It was boring after you left and my mom kept asking all these questions about you. She really likes you and so does my dad. My brothers might take a little more convincing but I think it's because you're vegan." Luke joked." Now I know I asked this many times before but I feel like you're not being honest with me; how did things end between you and Connor? You wouldn't have been as upset as you seemed if it was just mutual. He was awful to you and I don't know, I guess I thought you'd be more upset after the way he treated you."

"You're right," I mumbled." Okay, it wasn't mutual. I lied and I'm sorry but I didn't want to make a big deal about it because I'm so happy we're back together."

"Meghan," he groaned before running his face over his hands." Tell me everything that happened."

"We broke up because he broke you nose, because he was cheating on me, and because I was still in love with you and didn't have the balls to say that in the beginning with him." I explained." I've been holding that in all summer and now there's nothing left."

"Why didn't you just tell me that? You shouldn't feel like you have to lie to me." Luke said." I want us to have an honest relationship even if that could mean hurting the other person. I don't plan on hurting you again but I'm just saying."

"You got it. No more secrets." I replied before kissing him. We hung out for a while before I went home.
