The next morning I woke up to loud knocking on my door. Whoever it is needs to knock it off, no pun intended. I turned to lie on my stomach and held my blue pillow over my head. The knocking on my door ceased, "Thank God," I mumbled into the mattress.
"Yeah, you will be thanking God at church, now get your butt up." My Grammy's voice uttered. When I didn't move, she grabbed the pillow and said, "I made you a big breakfast. Now please get up Scar." She begged at this point. I swung my legs to the side of the bed and sat there with my eyes closed.
When I walked into the kitchen my grandma was sitting at the table. "It's about time." She said scooping some oatmeal out of her bowl. I sat down in front of the plate of eggs, toast and a bowl of oatmeal. I pulled the bowl closer to me before put my hands together and looked down at my lap, giving the illusion that I was praying.
I picked up my spoon and looking at my Grammy. She was gazing back at me with teary eyes. "What's wrong Grammy? Do you need something?" I asked about to get out of my chair and to her side. "No dear, it's just I missed you. You never used to visit. I thought you forgot about me." she said with a sad smile on her face. "I'm so sorry Grammy. I missed you too. You know I could never forget about you." I told her while picking up the glass of orange juice and taking a sip. "It's okay you're here now. That's all that matters." She said, and then began to eat again.
After breakfast, I did the dishes and went to get dressed for church. I looked in my closet, I had nothing to wear, my wardrobe consisted of jeans and t-shirts. So, I put on a pair of jeans that didn't have holes at the knees and I picked out a grey V-neck. I walked out of my room and saw my Grammy standing by the front door. She rolled her eyes and said, "Do you own any clothes that have color?" She said with humor laced in her voice. I smiled and walked out the door with my Grammy trailing behind me.
The crisp air felt good when it hit my face. I stared walking to my grandma's van when I heard people talking. I turned and saw Liam and his mother standing next to their silver car. Liam looked at me with pleading eyes. I smiled and waved, "Good Morning," I announced walking over to them.
"Hello Scarlett," Mrs. Rosenfeld said looking at her son. "Is there a problem?" My Grammy asked, eyeing them with worry. "I left a light on in the car last night and now the car battery is dead." Liam stated while studying the ground. He looked like a little kid that got caught trying to steal a cookie, but got caught. I tried not to laugh at the situation, but the way Liam held his face was so funny. His eyebrows are furrowed and he eyes kept moving side to side. He was probably hoping his mom doesn't yell at him in front of us.
"I can drive y'all and we will have someone come and look at it after church." My grandma said, walking to her car. Liam's mom strolled behind my grandma. I started to follow, with Liam at my side. When Liam said, "I know you want to laugh." I bit down on my bottom lip. I looked at him and he was wearing a small smile.
Church came and went; it was just as I remember it. We prayed, we sang, and we listened to the pastor's message and prayed again. All four of us were walking out the front door, I looked at my Grammy and she looked tired. "I'll go get the car so y'all don't have to walk far." I said grabbing the keys from my grandma. "I'll go with you." Liam voiced.
"Still scared of your mom's wrath?" I joked walking away from them. "That was so funny I forgot to laugh." He said smiling. I was about to reply, when I heard a loud engine start. I looked around the parking lot and that's when I spotted him, the guy on the motorcycle from yesterday. "Who is that guy?" I asked Liam.
Liam looked around until he noticed who I was talking about. "That is Nick Collins, that's the guy you punched me for beating up." Liam said touching his nose. I watched him speed off down the road. "Hey, stop drooling." Liam added with a nudge. I gazed up at Liam and shoved him. He started to laugh and I unlocked the car.
