She had a small smile on her face. "Hey, Grammy what are you going to do today?" I asked, following her into the room. I started to make her bed as she sat down in front of her mirror. "I have to go to the store and get some groceries." She said putting her hair brush on the table and stood up.
"I'll go with you." I said, while fluffing the pillows. I looked at her when she didn't respond. She was staring at the ground, it looked as if she had nothing on her mind. Her face was blank and it appeared as if she wasn't even breathing. "Grammy, are you okay?" I asked, walking over to her, placed my hand on her upper arm.
She looked at me before she spoke, "You shouldn't worry about me so much, dear." She walked past me and into the kitchen. She left me standing in the middle of her room. I looked around; a picture on her nightstand caught my eye. It was a picture of Grammy and my grandpa. My grandpa had his arms wrapped around her tightly while she was sitting down. I remember I took it with my Polaroid camera. You could see happiness in both of their eyes. I hope I can find a love as strong as theirs.
I trailed behind my grandma as she grabbed shopping cart. I looked at everyone, wondering if I would see a face I remembered. "Scar can you get me a case of water please." She asked me while looking over the list she made at the house. "Of course, what isle is it on?" I asked looking around. "They are in the middle towards the back." She told me walking towards the bread.
I started to walk away, but then thought what if something happens to my grandma. Why did I not think of this earlier? I started to walk faster, the more I thought about it the more I felt like an idiot. I looked around for the water, when I finally found the water I picked it up. It was heavier than I thought, but I could manage. I walked back to the bread isle, but my Grammy wasn't there. Where could she have gone so fast?
The water was starting to get heavier by the second, but I couldn't stop I needed to find my grandma. "Can I help you with that?" A deep, but kind voice asked. I turned and saw the guy from the pier. He had light brown hair and brown eyes. His eyes held so much happiness. He looked familiar. When I didn't answer, he snatched the waters from my hands. "So where are we going with these?"
"I'm looking for someone." I said peering up at him. He smiled down at me and replied, "Aren't we all, looking for someone I mean?" his eyes closed as he laughed at his own joke. When he noticed, I wasn't laughing with him he stopped. "My name is Liam by the way. What is your?"
I looked at him closely; the name was familiar. "I'm Scarlett," I said simply, as it clicked in my head that he was the Liam from the park. He smiled at me again, "I know your grandma has been talking about you. I'm your next-door neighbor; it's good to have you back...you're not going to hit me in the face again, are you?"
It was my turn to laugh. "Do I have a reason to?" I asked as I looked around and spotted my Grammy, she was talking to some women. I didn't recognize her, but then again, I didn't recognize Liam. "I suppose not." He said following my gaze. He started walking towards my grandma and I followed.
Liam put the waters in the basket and stood by the women. She had blonde hair and she wore wire framed glasses. "Thank you" I said when everyone's eyes were on me. I felt uncomfortable, so I looked at my dirty converse. I felt my phone buzz in my back pocket, but refused the urge to look at it.
"Scarlett, you have grown up so much since the last time I saw you. You are very pretty." The women said.
I felt my cheeks heat up as the words left her lips. I pulled my lips back a little into a shy smile before saying, "Thank you very much."
The women looked like Liam, so it has to be his mom, but I was drawing a blank on her name.
"Scar, you remember Mrs. Rosenfeld, don't you?" My Grammy said saving me, Mrs. Rosenfeld looking at me with a kind smile. "Of course," I replied.
