A/N:  two years. It's been two fucking years since I last updated this story. I know I have disappointed a lot of people by waiting that long, but it was the best option. Life has been getting more and more busy, and my mental health has had its ups and downs. These factors, combined with the fact that I have been constantly changing the ending, made me decide that I would wait to update the story until I had finished it completely. I didn't want to upload a random chapter and give false hope.

BUT, I have finally finished the story, and I am really happy with the result. There will be seven more chapters, including this one, which I will upload over the following days.

I truly want to thank everyone who has read this story, and especially the people who commented and held hope that I would upload another chapter eventually. I'm sorry it took so long, but I hope the wait was worth it. Thank you to all my readers, from the bottom of my heart. You guys made it totally worth it to continue writing the story.

Now, sappy rant over. Please enjoy the rest of the story. X

P.S.: you might wanna read back a little, even I had to reread what I had written every once in a while. So I wouldn't be surprised if barely anyone even remembers what happened in the last chapters

My head shot up. I stared at Levi's face. He didn't move, he was still laying perfectly still. I almost started to believe that I had just imagined it, that I had just wanted him to move so badly, that I had imagined him squeezing my hand.

Almost.

Levi's fingers moved again, slightly more noticeable this time.

"Levi?"

His eyes moved behind his eyelids. He didn't open them, but that was okay. He was moving.

He was moving, which meant that he was waking up.

"Levi, I'm gonna get a doctor, okay? Stay awake, please. Just stay awake."

I gave him a kiss on his forehead and bolted out of the room, eyes still wet from crying. But at this point, I wasn't sure whether the tears were sad or happy tears.

I was barely out of the room when I bumped into somebody.

"Eren?" My dad said, grabbing my arms. "What's going on? Are you okay? Is Levi-"

"He's awake!" I yelled.

"What?"

"Well, he's not exactly awake, but he moved. He moved his hand, and I saw his eyes move."

My father mumbled something under his breath, it sounded like "impossible". He let go of me and walked into Levi's room. He pulled a small light out of his white coat, pulled up Levi's eyelid and shone the light into his eye. It felt like it took him forever. With every second, I started to panic more. It was as if my head was splitting in two, one side telling me that maybe I was wrong. What if I had just imagined it? What if he did move, but it meant nothing? What if he was going to die anyway? The other side was a bit kinder. It was telling me that I knew I wasn't wrong, and that it had to be a good sign. Sadly, the nice part was also the quieter part.

I waited, almost forgetting how to breathe. My whole body was shaking.

"Dad?" I whispered.

"You were right."

"What?"

"He's responding. You were right, he' s waking up."

******

My dad pulled in a nurse to do some more tests on Levi, and then he pulled me out of the room and sat me down.

"Listen, Eren. All of this is a good sign. He is slowly gaining consciousness, which, to be frank, is already more than we expected.

"But please don't expect him to wake up right away. It's going to take some time. It might take a while for him to actually wake up, or for him to start talking, or properly moving. But that's okay. You've held up hope so far. Just help him through it, okay?"

I nodded. I wasn't really surprised by this information, but it was still disappointing to hear.

"And after?" I asked.

"After?"

"After he wakes up, will he be okay?"

"It's too early to say, Eren. For now, let's just focus on him waking up."

"He will wake up right?"

My dad smiled at me. "Yes, I truly think he will."
