The next day, I couldn’t concentrate on anything but the time. Every five minutes I looked at the clock, hoping that the time had miraculously skipped a couple of hours. I wanted to go to the bookshop and see Levi. When it was finally half past three, I couldn’t leave the building fast enough. I rode to the bookshop as fast as I could.

“3:45,” Erwin said. “That has to be a new record. You do realize that you being here earlier doesn’t mean that Levi will be here earlier too.”

“I can always hope,” I said.

Erwin laughed. “There’s some leftover pizza in the staff room. Go eat, I’ll call you when I see Levi.”

I went to the staff room, which was just a small room with a table and six chairs, a fridge and a microwave. I ate the leftovers and when I was done, Erwin stuck his head around the corner.

“Your boyfriend is here.”

“He’s not my boyfriend,” I snapped.

Erwin chuckled. “No, of course not.”

I walked out of room, purposely bumping into Erwin on my way out, which only made him laugh even more. Erwin didn’t mind if I did those kind of things, mainly because he wasn’t just my boss, he also was my friend. Another reason was that I had seen him drunk on a party a year earlier, and I had to bring his drunk ass home. A thing like that forms a bond. The only good thing that had happened that night, was that Erwin had met his girlfriend Hanji at that party. And Erwin still thanked me for the fact that I had gotten him out of there before he could throw up on her, which he later did on me. To return the favor, Erwin had given me the job at the bookstore, which I was really happy about. Because without the job, I would have probably never met Levi.

Talking about Levi, he was not sitting in the chair he always sat in. Instead of that, he was leaning against one of the shelves. When he saw me, a smile appeared on his face that automatically made me smile too.

“Hey,” I said.

“Hey,” Levi replied. “I wanted to ask you something.”

“What is it?”

“If I tell you that some of my old college friends are throwing a party as some sort of reunion, and I’m allowed to take a partner with me-” He stopped talking.

“A partner, huh?” I said, trying to hide my smile.

“Do you want to come with me?”

“Yeah, of course, but does that mean whe are-?”

“In a relationship?” Levi finished my sentence.

I nodded, not sure what answer I wanted.

“No,” Levi said. “At least, not yet.”

I thought about that. “Not yet,” I repeated. “Sounds good to me.”

Levi laughed. “So, will you come with me?”

“Yes, I would love to.”
