About ten minutes later I was back at Levi's room. I knocked on the door and softly opened it. Erwin was sitting with his face towards me, staring blankly into space.
"Hey," I said.
Erwin snapped out of his trance.
"Hey," he said. His voice was hoarse.
"You okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. I just..."
"You just- what?"
"Had to tell him it was not his fault."
Suddenly, Erwin started sobbing.
"What happened, Erwin?"
Erwin hadn't been able to talk about what had happened that night. All we knew was that there had been a car crash. Levi's car was found smashed into a tree. Levi ended up in a coma and Erwin lost an arm. What exactly had happened, nobody except Erwin knew.
"It was a damn squirrel. A goddamn squirrel on the road. I saw it. 'Look out,' I said. Yelled, more like. I scared Levi, and he lost control. I don't remember much after that. We crashed, and I threw my arms in front of Levi. He- he said sorry. That's what I heard him say after we crashed," Erwin cried. "But it wasn't his fault. It was mine. I scared him. Should have just hit that damn squirrel instead of that tree."
It took me while to find my voice. "Erwin, it was not your fault. Everyone would have reacted the way you did. You threw your arms in front of him? You might have just saved his life with that. It is not your fault."
Erwin shook his head, and I knew that whatever I was going to say, he would not believe me. Even though I knew that, I still had to say one thing."Levi would not blame you."

I couldn't remember when I had fallen asleep. All I knew was that I was woken up by a loud noise. A smoke detector? No, that wasn't it. But what was it?
Monitor.
It was a monitor.
Suddenly, I was wide awake. The machine that was monitoring Levi's heartbeat was going crazy. I jumped up and ran towards the door. I threw it open in blind panic.
"Help! I need help! Anyone!"
Two doctors came running towards me. They immediately tended to Levi. I couldn't understand what they were saying. Tears were streaming down my face because I knew what was happening. Levi was dying.
"Eren." A familiar hand on my shoulder made me snap back to reality.
I turned around and looked into my father's eyes.
"Let's get out of the room son," he said.
"But," I stammered. "Levi."
"They will do what they can, they will try to safe him. You can't help right now. The best thing you can do is to calm yourself down."
I nodded. My dad dragged me out of the room. The tears were still streaming down my face as I desperately tried to shut out the noises coming from Levi's room.
I never believed in God, but in that moment all I could do was pray. I prayed to every single godly power out there to safe Levi, because I needed him to survive.
A/N
Once again, sorry for not updating. I'm honestly trying to finish the story, but it's hard to write down what has to be written down in order for the story to make sense and for it to at least be a bit enjoyable.
Thank you for still reading and commenting though. My first story (Tears) is almost on 100k reads, and that is just mind blowing. So thank you all 🖤
