DENVER
I never knew that falling in love would be the best thing to ever happen to me. I never knew that I would find a soul as pure as Roya's that there would be beauty in every thing she does. The way her face lights up when someone praises her cooking. The way she slightly tilts her head when confused. The way her hair fall over her face. The way she looks at art. The way she's messily eating her taco right now.
Jordan took us to this casual Mexican restaurant after Roya finally answered. It was open yet cozy and the evening sky was perfect for eating outside. Somehow, Roya managed to look even more beautiful.
We were sitting at a round table in a perfect triangle. Surrounded by cool summer drinks and a variety of Mexican food. As if feeling my eyes on her, Roya looks up and frowns playfully with the mess she created. I chuckle at her and Jordan joins me when he sees all the contents of her taco falling out. Her face warms up as a light redness reaches her cheeks.
"I shouldn't have ordered these," she smiles, pitying herself.
We continue eating before Roya speaks up again.
"Did you guys talk to coach?" she questions, taking her last bite.
Me and Jordan share a look, trying our hardest not to give anything away right now.
"Yeah, we all met him at practice in the morning," I shrug as if there's not much to the topic.
"What did he say?" She perks up.
"He said he'll take a look at the practice schedule and let us know soon," Jordan smoothly shuts the possibility of any further questions. Practice schedule. I mentally scoff at this. No one has a practice schedule.
"Oh, okay," Roya sulks but masks it with a smile.
Damn it.
As she gets back to her remaining nachos, I look at Jordan and hope that he understands what I'm trying to convey through my eyes.
He looks at me and then back at Roya. Understanding, he picks up his phone and types something that I can only hope is what it is. After a couple seconds my phone vibrates and I pick it up.
Jordan
Texted Ian. Tonight.
Does he have a word limit or something? I understand his three word text and look up at him, nodding.
When the server came with the bill and went back to get the machine, Roya and I reached for the bill at the same time. I look at her confused and then at Jordan who has amusement clear on his face.
I earlier told him that if he's handling the tickets then I'm handling the food. We both don't care about the money but it's about doing something for the other two that counts.
"Roya," I start, my tone on the brink of warning.
"Denver," she copies me with a smirk.
"Just let me pay and we can get out of here," I say as if it isn't something that is up for discussion.
"Just let me pay and we can get out of here," she repeats my words at me and my lips twitch to form a smile but I control the emotion.
"I'm paying Roya, that's it," my tone hold finality.
"You guys always pay, let me contribute too," she has the audacity to fucking pout.
I look at Jordan for help and he shakes his head, gesturing 'this isn't my problem.' I turn back to Roya, licking my lips and making her eyes linger on them as I speak up.
