Anaya POV:
While driving to school the next day, I was still thinking of the promise I had made with Caden's mum. A day ago, only my position as president of the club was at stake, now it was much more than that.
In no time I was parking my car and walking towards the school building. Instead of walking in as usual, I stopped and looked around hoping to catch a glance of Caden. Seeing that he was nowhere around, I hitched my bag pack higher on my shoulder and started walking inside. Since I had arrived earlier than usual, not many students were around.
Instead of walking to my locker, I decided to walk around a bit. I was so lost in my thought that without realizing I had ended up at the back of the science lab. Last time I had been here was when I was counseling one of the juniors who always hid out here to smoke. Needless to say, the boy was now getting decent grades and was on the swim team. Losing his mum at the beginning of the year had really hit him hard and due to that he had started drugs and smoking. All he needed in the end was someone to talk to and a helping hand.
Sighing, I turned around to walk back inside when I saw a figure in a distance pacing around while muttering in hushed tone to someone on the phone. Narrowing my eyes to get a better look, my breath got caught in my throat when I realized who the person was.
Caden.
Out of curiosity I shuffled a little closer to where Caden was, trying to hear what he was saying. The closer I got the clearer I could make out what he was talking about.
"No... Not tonight goddamnit! We almost got busted last night and you know I can't fucking get caught doing this shit." He practically growled to the other person at the end of the line.
Busted? What was he talking about?
The way Caden was clenching the phone, the tightening of his fist on the side and the fixed glare on his face was enough for me to know he was close to losing it. Maybe that's why he still hadn't spotted me trying to ninja myself across the path. I was so dead if I got caught. I really didn't want to get caught up with Caden while he was angry as hell but I'm a curious girl.
"Fine. I'll see you tonight." I was so busy trying to not get caught that I had failed to notice Caden hanging up the phone and rounding the corner, making his way... directly towards me!
Run Anaya! Turning around with the full intention of sprinting for my life, I slipped, barely managing to catch myself from falling.
Oh cmon! Me and my two left feet!
"What the fuck are you doing here!?" a voice boomed from behind me, and the hairs on my neck bristled.
Too late...
Straightening up, I turned around. Caden stood there, his hand still gripping his phone and a shiver of fear tore through my body. His eyes were the darkest I had ever seen, his face shaded by hatred making me flinch back. The danger and rage radiating off of him made me want to cower back but I stood my ground. Caden King fed off the fear of others and I wasn't going to give him that satisfaction, no matter how much I wanted to run away without so much as a glance back.
Squaring my shoulders, I stuck my chin up, forcing my fingers to stop shaking. "What does it look like? I was walking to class." Worst excuse ever. And by the looks of it, he wasn't buying it either.
He charged towards me, making me yelp and take a step back. Tripping, my back slammed against the wall nearly knocking the air out of me. A flash of pain radiated through my back making me wince but that didn't stop Caden. In a flash Caden had grabbed me by my arms and pulled me towards his body. Pulling me to his height, I was forced to stand on my toes and fist my fingers around his tee-shirt to stop myself from falling.
