Anaya POV:

By the time morning rolled by, I was a bundle of nervousness. Everything that had happened last night was still replaying in my head.

From mine and Caden's little make out session to the box of strawberries and the note. The night had taken a turn for the worst. And as I stood in front of my study desk right now, staring at the box of strawberries still lying open in front of me, I tried to make sense of what was happening.

Who had sent the package?

Who knew about Caden's life in prison?

And who was keeping tabs on Caden and me?

Someone had to be keeping tabs on Caden to know about me. In school, we hardly talked to each other. The only times we did openly meet was either at his house or mine and we were always alone.

How would someone know Caden and I's connection from all this?

Unless... Someone was constantly keeping an eye on Caden.

My eyes widened at the sudden realization that all this went deeper than Caden let on.

I thought Caden had left that life behind. Or at least that's how he had mentioned to me. Although now that I think about it; he never did say anything about leaving that side of his life behind. He hadn't told me how he got out of prison before his time or what happened to the warden.

Caden promised he would tell me the truth and nothing but the truth but he had left behind part of that truth while telling me his story.

He promised to tell me the truth; but he never promised to tell me the whole truth.

The more I thought about all this, the more I could feel a headache starting to form at the back of my head. Gasping at the realization that Caden was still hiding things from me, I rubbed my head unconsciously.

I had fallen for a guy who had more secrets and darkness than everyone I knew combined.

The knocking on my door snapped me out of my thoughts. Running a hand through my hair, I tried calming myself.

"Come in." I called out shakily. Turning around, Brandon walked into my room. He must've come back in the morning to get ready for school, I thought.

Looking at him, I knew something was up. "You mind telling me why Caden King's car is parked in our driveway?" Brandon asked seriously. Oh, that was up. I could just see the protective brother mode activating in his head.

"His here for me, Brandon." There was no point in hiding it. I couldn't hide whatever it was between us forever. He was bound to know sooner or later and I would prefer it was sooner and from me rather than from someone else. Hearing from someone else would definitely make matters worse.
