Blank. My mind was void of all thoughts as I stared ahead. I had prepared myself for this exact moment over the past few days. But even with all the mental preparedness, I felt a slight trembling of my hands. Glaring ahead, I clenched my hands tightly.

Caden King doesn't show fear.

The room was silent as everyone processed what the judge had announced a few moments earlier.

"The court hereby declares the defendant guilty of manslaughter and sentences Caden King to two years in State Juvenile Detention Center."

From the corner of my eye, I saw two officers making their way towards me. Getting up, I looked towards my parents who had been sitting beside me quietly. My mother was trying hard to control her tears while my father looked... defeated.

Throwing her hands around me, my mum started sobbing frantically.

A few moments...

I allowed myself to feel for just a few moments, allowing the warmth from my mother's hug to soothe me. Before I could break any further, I pulled back and nodded at my father.

"I'll work something out."

Pulling away, I put both my hands behind my back allowing the officers waiting at the back to handcuff me.

Flashes blinded me and questions were thrown my way as I was led out of the courtroom.

"Caden, how does it feel to know you'll be in jail for 2 years?

Fucking fantastic.

"Caden, tell us what happened that night."

Slowing, I glared at the woman who had asked that question making her flinch back with widened eyes, clearly feeling intimidated under my gaze.

Growling slightly, I continued walking... away from my family and my life.

If only I could've been prepared for what I was about to encounter.

That was then...

This is now...
