Anaya POV:

It was around four in the afternoon when I had turned on my phone, only for it to be flooded with notifications and messages from Stacey. Sighing, I threw my phone on the bed knowing full well she would be here soon to pester me about why I had skipped school.

I had spent a good amount of time outside after Caden had left; just sitting and thinking about everything.

About him...

About me...

About 'us...' Was there even an us?

I know there will never be an 'us' no matter what. The relationship between me and Caden was strictly professional. He was just the boy I had to help and counsel. That's it.

But I do know I had come to really care for him. I wanted to help him. Caden deserves to be happy; he deserves to have someone who believes in him; someone who understands him and pushes him out of the darkness he had consumed himself in. He thought of himself as the devil who was only capable of destruction and darkness but I saw beyond that.

I saw a guy who put others before his own self.

I saw a guy who had stayed behind to be with a dying woman just so she wouldn't be left alone. The accident, without a doubt had been his fault but any other guy would've fled the scene and nothing would've been able to trace the accident back to him. But not Caden; Caden had stayed behind even though he knew the consequences of his actions.

I saw a guy who wanted to pay for his sins. He went to prison without any complains because he knew what he had done was unforgivable. He regretted his actions enough to pay for it. Leaving behind your entire life, family, friends and going to prison isn't easy; hell the idea to me is so damned scary, yet Caden had gone without any complaints because of the guilt he carried.

Seeing Caden, I saw a guy who had put his life on the line to save a boy he barely even knew. That showed how much good there was inside Caden King. Good that he refused to see in himself.

Caden had let me in, he had shared his darkest secrets and he had barred his soul to me and what had I done?

Kissed him and run off.

God, I wanted to slam my head against the nearest wall...

Groaning, I fell on my bed. Just then I heard the front door slam open and I knew who it was. Sighing, I sat up straight and waited for my best friend to make her dramatic entrance. What was I going to tell her? I knew I couldn't keep hiding things from her. And I had to stop lying to myself that whatever this was between Caden and I was strictly professional.

"ANAYA FREAKING ADAMS!" Stacey screamed like a banshee while throwing open my bedroom door. She looked like a raging bull with her hair all over the place and flaring nostrils. That had me chuckling slightly to which she narrowed her eyes dangerously at me.
